An in-progress arcade timeline

Shaggy April 29, 2008 6

Well some days there is quite a bit of news and others there is nearly none. Today is one of the latter – it’s a slow news day. But that doesn’t stop us from getting into something interesting – here is an arcade timeline that our friend at The Stinger Report, Kevin Williams started. I contributed a little as well, but it takes a bit of time to go through all of arcade history. Still, given some time I’m sure that it will turn out to be quite informative. Click on the link below to check it out.

This is not an real arcade timeline. This is an “American” arcade timeline, since it is focusing only on american companies with few references to the japanese. Just to give some examples, where is the 80’s games like Pac-man, Xevious and the most recent japanese games…

Wooo Bruce – this timeline was started at 2am (my time) and I spent about an hour placing some relevant titles. I will go back again and add some more, but to expect a Japanese, European and American complete timeline is missing the point.

Feel free to add what games you think are ‘relevant’ to the birth and growth of amusement – not just favorites please – I will also be going in and adding brief commentaries of why these are relevant from my perspective – open to people to change (within reason).

Bruce, perhaps you missed the part where I said it takes a bit of time to go through all of arcade history and that it will need some time to develop into something complete. Check it again there is plenty of new info there that covers the Japanese developers, we’re not dissing them at all here and as editor said – neither of us was looking at this by a nationality standpoint to do so would be rather silly so I’m not sure why you are doing so.

The main concern was accuracy, not nationality. Anyway the Editor understood my point and clarified the things.

    Muito Obrigado….
