My Arcade Update 5/26 (w/video)

Shaggy May 27, 2008 8

Even though it was a holiday in the US today that didn’t keep me from going in and working on the arcade. This week is the final push to get everything ready and I have the city inspection coming up on Wednesday so I need everything that can be completed to be finished by tomorrow. Unfortunately I have a part-time job that requires me to be away from the area for most of the day tomorrow and the electrician is supposed to show up and finish the job they started a few weeks back and I’m expecting several machines to be delivered as well. Fortunately my brother will be there to take care of these things but I will be showing up as soon as I can to help finish up the loose ends. Anyways here is a video of the latest from The Game Grid Arcade – I may do another video tomorrow if we make the difference I expect.

You will also see the beginning of my Act conversion – I have removed BeachHead 2000 from it’s cabinet and begun work installing The Act instead. Installing the knob has been a bit of a pain as I couldn’t remove the actual knob from the central shaft as it was supposed to do. Once that is finished though the rest is a breeze. Here is the video, available in HD!

I like the blue edging on the walls. That should look great under black-lights.

    Very nice progress so far.

Looking great. The Indy pin is a lot of fun, it should do well for ya. Looking forward to see how the edging looks under final lighting conditions!

The blue outlines look really good. Couldn’t quite visualise what you were going for when you described it first but it came out better than I’d expected.

You could always spraypaint the chairs later as well if you’re stuck for something to do, which I’m sure you’re not! Plenty of work to do on some of those cabinets. It’ll be interesting to see which ones the public is most interested in.

Yes, I am quite pleased with the blue edging so far. Now I have to break the bank on some black lights and decide on the best way to darken the windows. We tried a window film yesterday but we need to get the proper tools to smooth it out so it doesn’t look like we’re putting garbage bags in the windows. 😛

I should order the computers that we will be using today, putting those together and creating a proper network loaded with games should be a load of fun. Fortunately I am comfortable around computers, it will just take time to do all of them.

I think that The Act will do well but we will have to wait and see. I can hardly wait to play it in a proper cabinet myself. Once it’s finished I will post a video review of it, along with reviews of all the other games I have.

    AWESOME NEWS!

I just got an e-mail from my distrib. that I can get a House of the Dead 4 Deluxe (that’s the 62″ cab!) for only $5900! When I heard that I just had to say “Are you kidding me?” but it’s true and the cab is in great shape. I am definently getting this, stay tuned!

Nice one. That’s an incredibly pretty game. Very popular in the arcades I’ve been to as well. Should make a nice centerpiece for your place to draw in casual punters.

Is darkening the windows such an issue? I suppose glare is more of an issue in Utah than in Ireland. Could always go with blinds. Would mean you could make the place seem more inviting on cloudy days. You want people to be able to see into the place and get drawn in after all.

The only problem with HOTD4 is the space. Things are going to be cramped – I honestly am thinking of expanding into the empty space right next to me which is only an extra 800 sq ft. or so but it would help.

For the windows, glare is an issue – especially where in the afternoon the sun comes directly through the windows. I have some blinds up already but it still gets a little too bright. The film I got is transparent, it just removes a lot of the glare.

That House of the Dead 4 is an extremely good find – it’s been very popular at my university (though it has taken a knock since being moved from the bar to the pool room). The arcade itself is coming along very nicely, the black/neon look reminds me of the Quasar laser tag place that used to be in my area.
