New arcade in France focuses on fighters

Despite what you might hear in the media at times, there are still many people out there who enjoy arcade fighters. I have seen that myself over the past week of running my arcade, so much so that I am getting a Marvel VS. Capcom to further satisfy those players. In France a new arcade has opened that is dedicated solely to the fighter and they even have those cool Versus Fighting cabinets where the cabs are places back to back. Called La Mythik: Versus Fighting Club, they offer a hundred square meters packed to the brim with different fighting games and they are located in La Courneuve, France. They do have a couple of Puzzle games on hand too in case you’re not in the mood for the other fighters.

I wish them good luck and great success!

Focussing on fighting games is a good idea. They are cheaper (except Tekken 6) to buy than racing/gun games and have many faithful followers.

In my arcade we have some of the latest dedicated cabinets in deluxe form but visitors keep asking for fighting games.

In France, there’s a big “fighting” community but they mostly play on consoles. I hope they make the move.

At La Mythic, prices are great with 0,50 € a play, 1 € a play to recent games and 0,50 € for two credits on older titles. 0,50 € a play is rare in France where arcades are often overpriced.

I was in Casino Arcade on Goodge Street in London yesterday. They specialise in retro stuff. I was playing Street Fighter 2 with some guy there for a good 40 minutes. Brilliant fun. I’m not very good at newer fighters but I really enjoy Super Turbo. It was 3 credits for a pound (and 5 rounds per match) so it was very good value too.

Fighting games are great because they’re social. People don’t tend to compete as much on driving and lightgun games.

You might be interested to hear they had Mighty Pang there too Shaggy. It was the only other game being played too. Seems to have it’s fans by the looks of things.
