UK Pinball Show 2008 – Gutted!

Twisted Supreme September 2, 2008 2

I can’t believe I missed this. I am always pissing and moaning that I never see many tables out and about and I’ve just gone and missed a pinball show with lots of table in the UK! Dammit! Anyone else get to go? Can you tell us what was there? Can you make me insanely jealous?

UK Pinball Show, now in its 4th year, will take place 30th & 31st August 2008 at Wicksteed Park, Kettering. Visitors will have the opportunity to play over 100 iconic pinball machines from classics like The Addams Family to Stern’s latest pinball, Batman: The Dark Knight.

Tournaments for players of all levels will also be happening, including the official UK Open Pinball Championships where the winner will be crowned UK Pinball Champion.

Nick Bennett, of organisers Pinballers Anonymous, said “Pinball retains its position as one of the most popular computer games formats and the chance to play this many full size machines is rare. For the forth year running we’re organising the largest show of it’s kind in Europe, making a huge number of machines available to visitors and with the continued resurgence of pinball we are expecting more visitors than ever.”

    Nice Blog :o)

I organise the UK Pinball Show and 2008 was our 4th year (2nd at Wicksteed Park). I think we ended up with 130+ machines from early electromechanicals to Stern’s latest Batman: The Dark Knight – and of course plenty of classics in-between. It’s diffiicult for us to let the whole country know about the show as we operate largely on goodwill, and with that comes limited budgets. It took 3 years to break even, and is unlikely to ever do much better than that. Machines to play and buy, parts & spares, memorabilia, tournaments galore and much more besides. We also flew over Pinball designer John Trudeau (Creature from the Black Lagoon/Judge Dredd) to be our guest speaker at a Saturday evening dinner and awards evening – which proved to be a great success! Watch out for the show review on Pinball News (http://wwwpinballnews.com – nothing to do with me :o) and check out http://www.ukpinballshow.co.uk for details of 2009 when we know them. Next year is HUGE as for the first time ever the European Pinball Championship comes to the UK, and not only that the following weekend we’re organising the WORLD Pinball Championships – the first time it has been held outside America. Cheers. Nick. UK Pinball Show Organiser
