Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom running on Wii-based hardware?

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

I was a little surprised when I heard that the home version of Tatsunoko VS. Capcom was announced just for the Wii – I figured that it would have come to something else as well. Perhaps the fact that SFIV is coming to everything on planet earth except for the Wii made them go this route, I’m not sure. But then we have something else pop up here that could indicate why it’s coming to the Wii – supposedly the game is running on Wii-based hardware. At the moment there are two sources which are suggesting this – one a Japanese site Sakura.jp and an English site, Magic Box. If this is the case then we have to wonder who has developed the new board – when I talked with Namco back in March they were indicating that they were looking into creating something based on the Wii but we haven’t heard anything about it since. We’ll keep you posted of course but if this holds true then only the Xbox 360 will be the only console not to be modified for arcade use (legally) in this generation.

UPDATE: Thanks to Chris from Magic Box, they gave me another source where this info is coming from, it’s known to be reliable as well. Link to 3rd source.

BTW- Just to clarify what I said about Namco above – it’s common for one company to create new hardware and then pass it around for others to use, the best modern case is the Taito Type X which is being used by many different companies for games. So where Namco had suggested that they were looking into creating an arcade platform based on the Wii, it seems logical to me that there could be a connection here and if so, Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom will be the first game that we know of to use this hardware.

System16 indicates the arcade board is Taito Type X2:

System 16 also says Sengoku Basara X runs of Type X2 which isn’t true so I’m sure that thats a lie.

This has to run on System 256 because it just looks like it.

“when I talked with Namco back in March they were indicating that they were looking into creating something based on the Wii but we haven’t heard anything about it since.”

What does namco have anything to do with it?

If i had to take a guess, it’s on wii because they decided to add simple motion sensored mini-games since the game itself wasn’t a hit in japan.

DJ Long Cat- Sengoku Basara X most definitely runs on Taito Type X2. If Taito Type X2 runs Street Fighter 4 and Battle Fantasia, i can’t see why it couldn’t run SBX when it’s graphically equal to Guilty Gear XX. Besides System 256 is exclusively for namco arcade titles.

Okay, okay – lets get some direction to these comments:

Some clarification, in Japan Namco Bandai Games supplies the System 256 and 12 (as well as others) to independent developers as well as for themselves. There is some link to this through Banpresto.

Regarding System16, the site is being constantly updated, so some of the specifications are being revised. As we have seen following JAMMA, the new GunDam game is running on different hardware than we thought.

Our main interest with this news story is to get a comment from Capcom, Nintendo or event Namco on the reality of this Wii story?

Yes, Sengoku Basara X is 256, Yes system16 got it wrong. Calm down fellas. Back on TvC…

Chatter on Shoryuken forums is that Tatsunoko vs Capcom is on Taito Type X2. There’s a number of guys there deep in the arcade biz (operators, distributors, publishers) who’ve mentioned it in the big thread in the main forum.

But with that said it’s still not released, and pre-release specs can change, so time will tell.
