Missed news: Cecropia shuts it's doors

I should have been on top of this a while back but somehow it missed my radar until now. Cecropia, the company responsible for creating the coin-op arcade title The Act closed it’s doors way back in September of last year. In case you didn’t missed The Act, I’ve made videos of it here, here, and here. It’s an excellent game that is a bit different from anything else you’ll typically find in arcades these days and it was a real shame that it never got a wide-release to the coin-op market. I was able to get my hands on one and I set it up at my arcade where it has done fairly well and created some fans who come back on occasion to play through it all. It’s really too bad that Cecropia closed it’s doors although once The Act was cancelled they also pulled out of the arcade business entirely so it’s unlikely that had they stayed open that the coin-op industry would have seen something else from them but I always did wonder what else they could have pulled off for arcades. RIP Cecropia.

Uhg, that’s awful. Now I feel even more lucky to have gotten a chance to play it at California Extreme last year. It was great … and beautiful.
