I found an interesting little article today that we can add to the batch of evidence we like to point to that arcades are not dead and in many places they even thrive. One of those places, beach towns. A particular article that can be found on Delmarvanow.com takes a positive look at arcades found in such towns and it discusses how even classic games are managing to hold their appeal in the modern era of gaming. Even with redemption in the mix, one owner is quoted as saying:
“There’s definitely still an interest in arcade video games, although it’s changed a little bit from when I was younger…There just doesn’t seem to be much interest in games like pinball these days, but we do still provide things like that.”
As a side note, which could be anecdotal but important nonetheless, I also have noticed an uptick in e-mails from people asking about starting their own arcade biz and the term has been popping up more lately in the what people are searching for info we get. I guess if you live in a beach town then this could be one good path to take and the more arcades across the country, the better for the industry as a whole.

their deffinatly not dead at seaside towns like skegness, blackpool, bridilington, briton etc… at UK seasides. Tens years ago at skegness inngoldmels there has been a real increase in arcades all over ingoldmels. when I went this year to ingoldmels one arcade had an extention to make it bigger. their are lots of them at ingoldmel compare to years ago. to be honest I think arcades do very well all over the world thats near the coastline which to me is a bit weird since they do better on the coast than inland that has no coastline.
man I wished I lived by a seaside town like skegness, blackpool or scarborough instead of living in such a boaring city like sheffield.
Most seasides in Ireland still have arcades too. They’re nowhere near as many as there were 20 years ago, but there’s usually one still open at the main beaches.
its not jusr seasides though where arcades are still popular as bowling alleys have quite a few arcades as well or anywhere else where you are waiting around like in a airport, a ferry, holiday resorts, cinemas etc… arcade games don’t have to all be about being in an a arcade where thats the only place to go for arcade games and I think people tend to forget that arcade aren’t just limited to just an “ARCADE” such as what I mentioned.
