They might be know more for their children’s cartoons and theme parks but as a part of the theme park business they develop plenty of interesting ideas which can be applied in other areas. Take this new “Sensory Illusions” technology, developed by their Pittsburg research facility. By using a “Tactile Brush” system of vibrating coils built into a special seat, they can recreate anything from the feeling of rain to certain forces you would experience while driving. We all know who could benefit from this technology (especially that last part seeing how common racers are) – why not an industry where many video games use a seat already, the arcade? It would be easier for the technology to get somewhere in the amusement sector as opposed to the home market where accessories aren’t always guaranteed great success (and to top it off, an arcade video game would provide the system to everyone who plays it whereas on a home game it would be an option only a few would use) but I won’t be holding my breath for it to be seen anywhere outside of a Disney theme-park anytime soon.
