Konami testing GuitarFreaks & DrumMania XG3 in Japan

arcadehero August 4, 2011 4

It’s that time of year again – the time for Konami to test out the latest version of their GuitarFreaks and DrumMania arcade music games. I’m sure it will include a variety of new songs to play and has a “clear and significant change in the game system” although I’m not enough of a GF/DM expert to tell what that is right off the bat.

While it’s most likely that this is a series that will just stick around in Japan, you never know. The Round 1 location in SoCal managed to import a GuitarFreaks XG and DrumMania XG with an English translation, something that was not released on a wide scale (they are still the only location I know of with that particular version of the games). That’s a pretty big maybe but we’re sayin’ there’s a chance.*

*Don’t get your hopes up

UPDATE: As always, I knew I should have checked in with BemaniStyle first. Thanks to DarkTetsuya for this in the comments:

XG3, along with most of the other new BEMANI titles being released in the coming months, will support e-AMUSEMENT GATE, a new community service where players can form groups, share scores, and interact with other players. Players will also be able to create their own avatar to identify with on their profile and in-game.

XG3 will also allow players to play with other gamers around the country at the same time in online match-ups. A maximum of 3 players will be able to play the same song together at the same time. Playing songs with other players online will also allow players to gain more “Live Points”, which are needed to unlock hidden content for the game.

A new scoring system will also be introduced: songs will have a maximum score of 1,000,000 points and the player must score 700,000 or more points in order to clear the song.

      Thanks for the tip/info!

And I’m glad you noticed. I think I’ll start using that tag for all these Japan-only games. 😀

those new cabinets are huge! and mega cool.
the only guitar freaks we have close here in Miami is 1st mix USA. We have pop’n music and beatmania IIDX though. In recent times the flow of people playing rhythm games has slowed =(.
