Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Arcade as seen in the US

Thanks to JJ Kam on our Facebook page, here is a picture of the new Tekken Tag Tournament 2 machine as seen at the Fun Works in Hawaii. They’ve just reused the Tekken 6 cabinet which certainly is better from a cost perspective. As I expected, it follows the model of allowing two players per cabinet as opposed to the 1-player per cabinet style that has become popular in Asia and a few other venues. I understand why a lot of players like the latter although if you really want to see the game make it to an arcade near you, 2p cabinets are the best answer to achieve that goal for most locations. Although I imagine they could do this setup as a “standard” version and the head-to-head as a “deluxe” for those locations that would want to do so.

If I’m going to have to wait for the home port of Tekken Tag 2 , I would like a US arcade release of the game.

    I just hope this works…

@Alex – the question is what the home port will look like – lot of questions if the PS3 current mod will give you a arcade perfect version?

I’m just irked that Namco’s pegging a “holiday 2012” window for the home port, I can’t wait that long!

The machine at Round 1 Amusement is a Vs. Cabinet format with each player on a dedicated cabinet.

@ Editior: Yeah, I worry about that too. Tekken 6 on consoles was a visual mess, and Tag 2 looks very improved visually from its Tekken 6BR arcade counterpart.

@CD: Seems the magazines and console fan sites are avoiding the issue – none talked about the separation from the T6 and the original arcade game. One site tried to say it was better than arcade only for the report to be ‘deleted’ a few days after flaming from players.

The NAMCO SYSTEM 359 hardware is not a simple PS3 in a arcade box and the whole ALL.NET firmware also impacts the systems operational structure. This is not being reflected in any coverage outside of Japan – I think the console boys are in such a hunger for information and new releases they will brush any comments under the carpet.

Trying to get any sense about the TTT2 test is proving difficult – I will have to go to Namco’s PR guy again next week to see what is happening. Rumor is that one magazine sent a freelancer to one of the tests as they wanted to get some information but was unhappy how popular the arcade brawler was!!

@ editor: I don’t think it’s a matter of avoiding the issue between the arcade and it’s console counterpart. That fact is, not many people have been exposed to the arcade version so there really is no way to compare both. I remember when I first found a 6BR machine (about 8months after I got the console version on release) I was baffled to see the visual difference! Since then, Everytime I play the home port, it looks nasty to me lol!

I can only hope Namco’s Tekken Dev team have gotten some experience with both consoles thru their efforts with Tekken 6 home port. Above all, I really hope they take more priority with the quality of the port over stupidly unwated modes like that awful scenario campaign mode. I perfer a direct arcade quality port with bare bones extras instead of the mess that was Tekken 6.

Are u serious LOL! I hope this freelancer wasn’t one of my victims cuz the I went to one of the loc test for the game the very next day and went through a 15 win streak lol!

@CD – I totally agree that the limited exposure to the amusement version in the west allowed a number of forum experts to make big claims over better than arcade – i recently read a forum that claimed XB360 T6 was better than arcade!

15 win streak – that must have been brutal. Means you have a serious TTT2 card now!

Trying to get more information on the whole testing is proving difficult with the holiday season round the corner. Will put more effort behind collecting data soon.
