Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited Coming to US Arcades

Just a couple of weeks ago at the AOU Expo in Japan, it was unveiled that Namco already had a major update on the way for their latest fighter, Tekken Tag Tournament 2. We also knew that Tag Tournament 2 was on it’s way to the US in some form thanks to those location tests that took place a short time ago with a few US based arcades. It wasn’t certain at first but now we know for sure that the new version, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited will be making an arcade appearance in the US (possibly Europe but not certain on that still) as the game is slated to make it to Amusement Expo 2012, which takes place in a couple of weeks in Las Vegas, NV.

UPDATE: As some have asked about this, I confirmed this news with Namco America, which is the branch that handles Namco’s amusement releases for North America.

In case you missed it, here is a trailer for TTT2 Unlimited, which basically is Tekken 7 as it features 1vs1 play, in addition to a few other features. This also marks a now unusual event for US arcades as fighter releases have been sparse for the past decade or so, usually only coming around in the way of imports (although there have been a couple of exceptions here and there – Blazblue Continuum Shift II was released as a kit in the US by Taito last year, as was Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, Tekken 6 also showed up at a few places but it wasn’t pushed like Namco is pushing TTT2 now).

If you need to find an arcade near you that you want to convince them to get the game you want, don’t forget these handy resources:

I wonder if they are going to release a proper arcade cabinet with it or is it going to be a kit. I kinda doubt they would only release a barebones kit in the US.

So far it’s a dedicated cabinet only. No kit has been planned yet but that could change I imagine, if demand was high enough.

This is one question I haven’t been able to find an answer to yet.

Does anyone know what the hardware specs are for this?

I know Namco used “Namco System 357” (which is based off the ps3) for Tekken 6. The news articles I have read have said that TTT2 runs on a “Namco System 359”.

What is the differences between these two systems?

If I had to guess, I would suspect the main difference may be the system ram. System 359 may have double the ram. I’m guessing this because Namco would want to be able to have the 4 characters on screen at the same time without having to have a big reduction on image quality.

Just make the tekken tag tournament 2 unlimited for consoles, simple. These days in america playing games on arcades is not something a great majority of us are trying to do anymore.

Moot point as it was released for consoles first in the US. A majority of fighting fans aren’t playing in arcades because you can play the same games at home and online. Thus the industry is not going to embrace fighters unless something big carried with it some exclusivity.
