New Arcade Documentary: The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time

In the world of arcade documentaries, most have focused on high score challenges but there is another side to that which is intertwined with those that compete for high scores and most often that is classic game collecting. Next Spring a new documentary is going to take a look at the collecting side of the arcade called The Space Invaders: In Search of Lost Time. As one can gather from the name and from the trailer below, it deals with the nostalgia that drives the collector spirit that many feel for classic arcade games as well as some of the hopes for future collectors.

At this point when it comes to preservation I think the most pressing technology that would be a huge assist in that regard would be a suitable CRT replacement. Canon had been working on SED technology which was promising in that regard but unfortunately that has been totally dead for a couple of years now. FED technology which is similar and was being looked at by Sony hasn’t fared much better. A company called AUO had picked up the banner of FED tech but they have not reported any available displays so far, making such hopes for a replacement grim at this point.

Wow, that looks fantastic. Is it sad that I want to watch that documentary partly just to see other people’s game collections?

Nice find, I look forward to it. You gotta check out “Tilt: Battle to Save Pinball” and “Chasing Ghost” for other good examples.
