Disney Cars Arcade As Seen On Location Test At Tomorrowland Arcade, DisneyWorld

Shortly I am going to be rolling out the Arcade Releases for 2013 page and as a way to kind of start that off, as well as the New Year tonight, here is a look at one of the games we plan on seeing sometime this next year. We have mentioned Cars Arcade, based upon the Disney/Pixar Cars franchise, in the past as it was shown for the first time earlier this year at the AAMA Distributor Gala at the Raw Thrills booth but the game has been pretty elusive otherwise – as mentioned in the video here the cabinet that is at the Tomorrowland Arcade was supposed to go to IAAPA but for some strange reason they decided not to take it. Also, this game has only been seen alone by itself every time we have seen it, although I imagine that the final version will allow linked units. We’re still not sure when this is going to be released (or if – it could always end up being a game that doesn’t make it out of tests if those tests do poorly but it sounds like despite being a single unit this is doing fine at Tomorrowland) but my guess is that we will see a larger rollout this March when Amusement Expo 2013 hits Vegas. The game will be produced by Raw Thrills but as they just barely started producing Snocross Arcade I imagine that they will let that get out the door before focusing on this. Cars does offer a nice substitute for Nicktoons Nitro Racing, which was a racing game more for kids that they no longer produce.

Anyways, this is the first time we have seen the game in action, otherwise we have only seen still pictures. This was captured by Nick at Arcade Hunters, who has shared some stuff from the Tomorrowland Arcade a few times. Graphically it looks pretty good, the animations on the cars is really nice, hard to get a feel for the overall levels though. He has much more to explain about it, so here you go:

From the looks of things, this appears to be an arcade port of the Cars 2 console game released last year.

It is partially but there have been some changes made. I met with the team at the end of 2010 where they were discussing it although it was at my arcade and not their studios where they mentioned it would be based on that but with appropriate changes to fit into the arcade style racer that Raw Thrills typically likes doing

I’ve yet to see Nicktoons Nitro, but I’ve seen the first game plenty of times.

JT’s right. This game is pretty much a stripped down version of the Xbox 360 version of Cars 2. They just removed the story elements and training modes and just have the racing game bits.

If you look up video of it on YouTube you’ll see the character selection screen is exactly like the 360 version down to the bottom right hand corner of the screen where it says “Press X For Auto Drift” You rev the car up in the beginning to gain boost, if you build up the meter you get boost plus a barrier that you can slam into other cars with. Plus they also kept in “(A) Continue”

Here I am thinking I’m playing a totally new game made for the arcade and all they did was slap an XBox 360 into a machine and strip out the story stuff to make it a straight racing game. Now I’m not going to be sad if they can the game.

If they end up making a game based off of Sugar Rush, they better get Specular Interactive to make a brand new game from the ground up then just slapping something like this together.
