Route 66 Arcade Museum Now Open in Atlanta, IL

It’s been a little while since we had news of a new location opening the doors probably due to most places trying to get open at the beginning of the summer. For this location it’s not 100% clear which day this year it opened but it was recent. The Route 66 Arcade Museum is something you might miss when in the town of Atlanta, IL (yes Illinois not Georgia), unless you know exactly where to look. Fortunately this video, which seems to be the only information online about this museum at the moment (doesn’t seem to have a website, Facebook presence, etc), shows you where to find them as well as the many retro games inside. To better fit into the retro game museum theme, “nothing they carry is newer than 1981” according to the info but as a commenter pointed out below, Ms. Pac-Man is ’82. Either way, pre-crash era titles. This also means a lot of EM games, which you generally don’t find concentrated into one place very often. Either way we wish them luck in the business and if you find yourself in the area, make sure to check it out!

I live in Atlanta and while I haven’t been to this actual arcade, I’m assuming it is owned by the same people who own the one in Mclean, the next (also tiny) town over. We’ve been to that one a couple of times, my husband and I, and we loved it. We were literally the only people in there, though. I believe it was an hour before closing. We spent the whole hour running around with our pockets full of quarters like 15 year olds in the 80’s. I didn’t see any employee so I can’t comment on that. I’ll have to check the Atlanta one out, too. So crazy that such a small town, which we’re new to, would have something so fun.

Pole Position II (the sequel to the original Pole Position) was released in 1983. That game was definitely spotted in the video.

As the person who shot the video – yeah, something newer than 1981 was in there, but now there’s some 90s games in there.
