Sega Announces Plants Vs. Zombies The Last Stand Arcade

UPDATE: Some new info has been released about this. It is NOT a touchscreen game. Details.

Last year I heard a rumor that among the efforts to translate some popular home games to the arcade that an official effort was being made to include Plants Vs. Zombies onto that roster. In China, unauthorized efforts have taken place before so it seemed that there was enough of a desire to make it happen. I didn’t hear any follow-up on it again and just figured it was just one of those rumors you hear.

Until just a few minutes ago when Sega Amusements posted this graphic to their Facebook page:

Ok, this tells us basically nothing about the game but we can assume that this will be aiming to compete with other “video redemption” products; Sega’s last big push on videmption was an arcade version of Bejeweled. But keep in mind, several videmption products also have an option for amusement only, meaning they will work as a standard arcade game with no ticket or gift card vending option (Sea Wolf, Temple Run, Doodle Jump are examples that have this option). Of course these are just educated assumptions for the moment but the IAAPA 2013 trade show is coming up in a little over a month and I have already confirmed with Sega Amusements that this will be there(along with the new Transformers: Human Alliance Arcade). As such, stay tuned to AH for a hands-on look with the game. We’ll have more on this as soon as we can get it.

RingEdge 1? Sounds like it could certainly be RE1.

No idea yet on the hardware. From what I’ve seen PvZ could probably run on Ringwide just fine 😛
