New Trailer For Namco’s Mach Storm

The hits keep on coming today and now is a new trailer for Namco’s jet fighter extravaganza Mach Storm. Using the Wayback Machine, we reported about this one back in February when it was on test as Sonic Storm. We also found out later that this is based upon Namco’s Ace Combat: Assault Horizon titles which was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. This is a prime example of an arcade cabinet making a huge difference in how a game will be presented, giving players a unique experience only to be found at the arcade.  Although as I mentioned in a comment on another post, my hope is to see something along the lines of a Starblade/space dog fighting game down the road. Either way, taking this twist on Assault Horizon is a welcome change. The last aerial combat game we saw in arcades was GlobalVR’s Blazing Angels and Sega’s AfterBurner Climax. I have had Blazing Angels at my arcade since I opened in 2008 and its been one of the most consistent earning games I have and its not hard for the game to stand out either.

Standing out is not a problem Mach Storm will have. It’s not entirely clear how different the software on this is from Ace Combat: Assault Horizon but some indications from the Japanese location tests was that it is not a straight port to a cool cabinet. Although by using the famous Gundam Pod design, that alone turns heads regardless of the software inside. Here’s the trailer:

Looks fun. Is this a multiplayer linkup or is it just single player?

Does look great, now just do this with Mechs heh. Think about it though, wouldn’t it be great?

Yes the absence of mech games in the arcade industry is really baffling. It’s one genre that should be a match made in heaven and yet the last one I can think of in the US was the BattleTech pods from 2004 or MechWarrior 4 for the Tsumo motion multi-game system in 2003. :/

This is really an interesting spinoff of ace combat assault horizon and ace combat 6, consisting of super aircraft and close range assault. The aigaion heavy command cruiser is probably one of the missions too. Too bad the cfa-44 don’t have admm
