Well I did it again – I missed posting this on the birthday of the site so here is a belated birthday post. I have a decent excuse this year – I moved from my home this past weekend and have been tangled up in that always lovely process.

On December 3rd 2006, Arcade Heroes was launched. It was created by an individual who has chosen to remain anonymous, as a means to provide news about the coin-op arcade and pinball industry since that news was being overlooked at large. Since that time it has grown to become the premier site to providing that news and it is read by people within every aspect of the industry from the manufacturers and game developers to the game players. I joined in 2007 as a writer under the name “Shaggy” and took ownership of the site in 2010. There have been some other writers on the site but they have been pulled in other directions, which is understandable with how life gets 😉

My thanks to those who contribute either website upgrades, links, videos, pictures or full stories to the site. I know it would not be the same without those contributions. You are welcome to come play some free games at my arcade anytime 😉

Also we just hit 800 likes on Facebook! Thanks for following us there. You can also follow us on Twitter where we are approaching 900 followers (for some reason the counter on the site here to the right stopped working with Twitter at 521 fans).

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane with some links from previous years of some big stories, at least :

2006 – Welcome To Arcade Heroes ; 2 Spicy For Me!

2007 – Pirate Revenge – another new title from IGS ; ATEI 2007 – Part 1 of many ; The Act: An Interactive Movie On Location Test

2008 – Sega Rally 3: Hands-on impressions ; Starting an arcade of your own (Part 1) – I guess I should have followed up with Part 2 by now 😛 ; Missing in Action: Space Games

2009 – New boat racing game by Raw Thrills’ and the Hydro Thunder team to be at ATEI ; Terminator Salvation Arcade Seen On Location Test ; The Arcade Heroes “Game of the Decade” Poll

2010 – ‘Round 1’ rocks SoCal with bowling, food, pool, arcades and more ; Pac-Man Returns To Arcades with Pac-Man Battle Royale at Amusement Expo 2010 ; First Full Look At The Indie Arcade Game Friction ;

2011 – Namco’s Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 4 coming in December to Japan ; Pinball Wizard Arcade opening in Pelham, NH next week (UPDATED) ; TRON Pinball machine + playfield

2012 – 40 Years Of Arcade Games – Part 1 (1972-1989); Firefly: The Arcade Game Celebrates 10th Anniversary of Short-Lived TV Show UPDATE ; Jersey Jack Pinball Officially Announces 2nd Machine: The Hobbit

At the beginning of January I’ll run a post where the top 10 posts of 2013 will be shared.

Also for kicks, here are the 3 most watched videos I’ve posted to Youtube for the site. These are all raw and unedited; now that I have a good video editing program that is going to change for the future, as you have seen with a few of the more recent videos:

An example of a montage which I have been meaning to finish up Part 2 on along with covering a few other years:

Thanks for your continued support and long live the Arcade!

    Many happy returns to the site! Though I can’t write for external publications now, I was honoured to be a contributor and I’d never look anywhere else for my coin-op news. Keep up the good work, Shaggy.

    Happy Bday Arcade Heroes!

    I used to post on the forum (when there was a forum) back then, while shaggy was still discussing business models for his arcade ideas. Glad to see everything working out so well for him and the site. 🙂
