Astro City Brings Retro Arcade Goodness to Southend-On-Sea, UK

(Thanks to Barrie for the tip!)

The year is coming to a close and just in before the end, a link was sent to my inbox about a new retro arcade that opened its doors earlier this year in the UK.

Located in Southend-On-Sea, which is East of London around where the River Thames empties into the North Sea, the arcade is called Astro City and it appears that they opened this past Summer (well better late than never on the news once again). In addition to some local favorites of billiards, foosball and fruit machines (those are huge in the UK but I’ve never played one myself) their video arcade collection consists of: Time Crisis 2, Espgaluda, Pac-Mania, a Darius title (not sure if its Darius Gaiden or G-Darius), Gauntlet, Ms. Pac-Man, Lethal Enforcers, Crisis Zone, Frogger, Phoenix, WWF Wrestlefest, Target Terror, Dancing Stage EuroMix, Pac-Land, Ghosts ‘N Goblins, King of Fighters XI? (Was written as 10 but as comments point out, there was no “10”), Altered Beast, Galaga and a rare EZ2 Dancer. They have more I believe but that is what I could find from the pictures posted to their Facebook page.   For pinball they also have Star Trek, Xenon, Vector, Firepower and Gorgar.  They have some great lighting, I’m sure the pictures don’t do it justice. I always like to wish locations the best of luck in their business and it looks like they have been doing good so far, so if you are in the area give them your support not just with a thumbs up but with your cash too.

Nice one! They’ve also got Daytona USA, a JAMMA Space Invaders, Virtua Fighter 5 and quite a few others.

Ha ha, yeah, there never was a KOF10.

It started using roman numerals at KOFXI. Before that, they went by year instead.

    I’m assuming he meant KOFXI.

Yeah, I was podering the same thing. Has to be XI, which is a very fun installment if you ask me. Highly doubtful they mean XII or even XIII considering how scarce the latter board is outside of Japan.

just an update for this post, Dancing Stage Euromix was upgraded to DDR Extreme, and now it has been upgraded to DDR 2013 (which is the newest game in the series) and is the only one in Europe, we have a few e-AMUSEMENT passes left behind the food bar to sell for DDR 2013, and they also work on Pop’n Music and Beatmania IIDX that will be arriving soon, we’re also getting House Of The Dead III and Ghost Squad.
