Subway Surfers Comes To The Arcade Via Coastal Amusements

Among amusement companies taking charge of mobile-to-arcade ports, Coastal Amusements certainly has found a sweet spot in supporting these types of ports. They already have released Temple Run Arcade, Temple Run 2 Arcade, Rail Rush and now they have released Subway Surfers, which uses the same cabinet design that they introduced with Rail Rush. This game was first shown in Europe at the EAS 2014 event, where it looks to have under gone a couple of cosmetic changes but nothing major.

The marketing materials they show for Subway Surfers sounds similar to many other Android/mobile games that make the jump with “millions of downloads/users” which have played the game on their phones. Being that I am not one of those people yet, here is a trailer of the game shared by the original developers:

Based on that, it looks like Temple Run meets a tiny bit of influence from Jet Set Radio (I said tiny so hold onto your hatemail) but for the most part, it’s Temple Run/a mobile endless runner dash game. Regardless of that, it has garnered a lot of attention from mobile players so this is another instance of instant recognizability on the game when someone comes across it at the arcade.

There isn’t much more information about it yet – only that it is available as it is listed on the Coastal Amusements website at the top of their games list, it uses a joystick instead of a trackball which is what those aforementioned games used and according to the manual, ticket play can be shut off in case any location wants to use it as a pure video game. We certainly will come across this one at IAAPA in a few weeks, so incase anyone is curious to find out more, let us know in the comments!

I could see this selling more units since Subway has more consumer recognition than Rail Rush.
