New Arcades: Violent City (London, UK); Bonus Round (Phoenix, AZ)

I always like starting the week off with some new location news and today it’s got a little bit of an international flare.

Violent City Opens Under A New Location In London

(Thanks to Toby Nakhornfor the tip) – There are some cities out there where council members would be aghast at a business name like Violent City but apparently London is not one of those places. This title plays on the idea of a setting from the Raizing shoot ’em up Batrider (thanks to Dave K. for the reminder). This is not an arcade in the traditional sense – they are more focused on working as a special events venue while working with other organizers to put together a variety of different experiences. For the arcade side, they do have quite a collection of Japanese candy cabs, which are capable of running a variety of JAMMA games; naturally they will have a strong focus on fighters.

Bonus Round Opening In Phoenix on May 13th: Over on the other side of the globe, a new bar/arcade is opening their doors this Friday in Phoenix, AZ by the name of Bonus Round. As we have come to expect from most of the bar/arcade models out there these days, they will operate on a free play model for the games, which will include: Area 51, Cyberball 2071, Defender, Galaga, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, Jurassic Park, Marvel Vs. Capcom, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Rampage, Spy Hunter, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TRON, X-Men and more. The story over at AZcentral.com has a little more information (and points out the explosion of bar/arcades in the area); you can visit their main website here. Surprisingly, they put together a commercial to promote the opening, not something we tend to see:

We wish these businesses the best of luck and if you live anywhere near them, be sure to give them your support!

Thanks for the Violent City coverage! Speaking to James to get rhythm games covered there and he has so many candy cabs waiting to be used. Good times for London.
