Newsbytes: Man Vs. Snake; Jarvis Interview; Golden Tee

Today’s newsbytes is a little rushed, I unfortunately don’t have time to do the Name That Game but everything else will be managed so let’s get to it.

‘Man Vs. Snake: The Long And Twisted Tale Of Nibbler’ Documentary ReleasedWe first reported on this way back in 2013 but finally the documentary about the 1st world record to surpass 1 billion points on a video game is now available on a number of platforms(Game console VOD, Amazon, Youtube, etc). It won’t set you back much either, costing less than the price of a typical lunch.  I’ll have to offer something of a review on Tim McVey’s Nibbler quest when I get a chance to watch it.

Gamasutra Interviews Eugene Jarvis – Always great to see a prominent member of the current arcade industry get some press in the mainstream game media as it shows how the business still thrives. Here, industry legend Eugene Jarvis provides info on why arcades are still making it today despite the prevalence of mobile gaming. Click here for the interview, entitled ‘Defender dev Eugene Jarvis on the bright future of arcade games.’

Golden Tee Setup tutorials – When I worked in arcade game sales, I was amazed by how many home users wanted Golden Tee for their home (granted, not as surprising as the number of people that wanted full sized arcade basketball games for their house, which often doesn’t work). With a large number of home sales, IT has put together several videos that shows you how to setup your Golden Tee arcade cabinet, at home or on the job:

BTW – I was often asked why you can’t have Golden Tee LIVE for home use (the same was also asked all the time on why no LIVE play for dartboards like the Arachnid Galaxy 3) and it boils down to a couple of reasons: 1) These Live versions involve tournament play for cash prizes and while home users have invested into the game cabinet itself, they would get an unfair advantage in play that is often for cash pots 2) Businesses need to have something special in these games to draw attention; it’s a reversal of how home ports usually stomp on their arcade counterparts by offering more content.

Pump It Up Prime 1.18 Update – The frequent PIU Prime updates just keep on coming:

Top 25 Pinball Machines Infographic (Thanks to reader Micah De Jesus for sending this) – Here is a link to a large infographic by Pinball Sales Australia which gets into what are considered by them to be the top 25 pinball games. They have the wrong Star Trek pictured though 😉

MediaMation’s Gamesphere Offers Modern Twist To Old Atari Idea (Thanks to Stingray for the tip) – MediaMation might not be a name that you immediately recognize, even though they do tend to focus on out-of-home entertainment and are at IAAPA every year. They were at e3 2016 where they showed off their Gamesphere setup…which reminds me of something Atari tested out at BART back in the day, albeit with a focus on console game and upgraded considerably in size:

That’s all we have time for today, have a great weekend everyone!
