Newsbytes: Deadpool Pinball Gameplay; Galaga World Championship; Tipsy Raccoons; Bombergirl & more

Welcome to this weekend’s Newsbytes. I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have bought my latest book, I hope you are enjoying it. Let’s get to the news:

Deadpool Pinball: The Stream

In case you missed it this week, the pinball wizards over at Dead Flip got their hands on a Stern Deadpool pinball machine. While this video is over 2 hours in length, it teaches you how to play the game while showing it in action. Enjoy:

Galaga World Championship

Let’s start today’s Newsbytes with a long article entitled: “Every Mission Is A Suicide Mission.” The subject of the piece – Namco’s Galaga, and the people dedicated to competing on the iconic arcade classic. It’s a fascinating piece that gets into competitions, game design, game history, dedication and more about what it takes to win the Galaga World Championship.

Tipsy Raccoons Explanation Trailer

Curious about how the new “drinkcade” Tipsy Raccoons works? Then check out this handy little trailer. If you are a fan of party games (particularly any of the few arcade games in this genre, like Bishi Bashi Champ), then you really can’t go wrong with this one:

Actor Bruce Boxleitner Headed To Free Play Florida

If you plan on attending Free Play Florida in Orlando this November, then you’ll get to enjoy more than just playing a bunch of arcade and pinball machines on free play. You’ll also get to meet with the actor who played TRON, one of the most influential arcade-involved movies ever made. He is still a very busy actor, so it’s nice to see him open the schedule for something like this.

Enhancing Greatness: The Sega OutRun Enhanced ROM Hack Pack

Back in the day, developers didn’t have the crutch of being able to fix game code problems with a quick download from the internet. When the game shipped, that was it…if a critical bug was found later, it could be fixed, but chances are that most locations that bought a game wouldn’t get their hands on updated ROMs for a while – if ever.

Now this is old news – seven years old in fact – but in case you overlooked it as I have, then you might be interested to know that some enterprising game hackers have improved Sega’s iconic racing title OutRun with a ROM hack. It resolves a few bugs, while adding in a high score saving feature. Check it out here.

Halo: Fireteam Raven Landing At More Non-Dave & Busters Locations

If you don’t have a Dave & Busters near you, and have been patiently waiting for the game’s release for other arcades to pick up, then you are in luck. By this tweet below, the game is starting to appear at other locations out there.

The Konami Bombergirl Live Stream

The latest version of Konami’s Bomberman series is now available in Japanese arcades with Bombergirl. This title was unveiled way back in Feb. 2017, only to go under the radar for quite awhile. Konami has announced that the game will launch on August 30th, and to help build the hype, they aired this livestream of the game being played for you to enjoy:

Step ManiaX Begins Testing At 8 On The Break & Timezone Singapore

As recently mentioned on the site, location tests have begun for the spiritual successor to In The Groove, and by the reactions I’m seeing online, it’s all positive so far. One piece of news that has come to light is that the game is also testing in Singapore right now, allowing an indie developer to test the game in very different parts of the world. People are certainly excited – check out this picture taken in front of 8 On The Break:

But I forget, “no one” plays arcade games anymore. 😛

That’s all for this weekend!

Aw man I got to get myself over to Leeds at some point. I’m gonna try go in a couple weeks to try the new halo arcade game.
It would be nice if bomber girl came over to the west, especially as bomber an arcade was popular back in the day but somehow I see that as unlikely given that konami are handling the game.
