Webzine looking for dating advice from…Big Buck Hunter Fans!

While most of the time we deal with ’serious’ news, occasionally we come across something I’d classify as being more light-hearted such as with this call for dating advice from Big Buck Hunter fans. We were contacted by Nerve.com and they do a dating advice column often looking for such advice from a variety of different sources - from bridesmaids, to voice over actors to medieval historians and more. So with them looking for Big Buck Hunter fans is at least a sign that one group of arcade players is being recognized!

The way it works is they want interested parties to answer about 10 out of 20 questions, along with a picture of your happy face. If you’re interested in contacting the site with answers to the 20 questions then you can find the info after the jump. Keep in mind however that a few of the questions are adult-oriented (so NSFW) so use caution if you click below (don’t say that I didn’t warn you)

Jazz up your game room with these arcade vinyl decals

Looking to brighten up your games room, or any room for that matter? Then check out these simple but effective Pacman & Space Invaders vinyl decals. Apparently they are easy to apply as well as remove. Handy if you don’t like the way you first put them up. I might have to get the Space Invaders. All the walls in my place are white and could do with jazzing up and I’m far to lazy to paint them!

A look at Konami’s CastleVania Arcade game - from the inside

Ever since I first heard about the new CastleVania arcade title by Konami, I’ve wanted to see more than the outside of the cabinet and finally after a little while of waiting we have a couple of shots from inside the cabinet. Next we’ll need video but this will do for now. As seen above about it’s got a very large screen - I know that the cabinet is huge(as seen below) so it will be an attention getter. Also seen in the thumbnail to the right here are the motion-sensitive whip controllers - I wonder if the tips light up or not. With the fanbase that CastleVania has I cannot imagine this not showing up outside of Japan, we’ll just have to see how much it runs for.

American Idol Arcade game location testing in Illinois

Well it looks like we can move American Idol from rumor to confirmed at this point - apparently the game is currently being location tested at the Enchanted Castle in Lombard, Illinois and it has been there for “many, many weeks now” from what we have been told.  Unfortunately we have not received any pictures or video of it in action and how much longer it will be there is anyone’s guess but if you live nearby we would love to see some pictures of the game as well as some thoughts about it - I am quite curious to know how this one plays. I also wonder if it uses online connectivity or not so it can feature downloadable content for songs and other things.

Now we just need to find out if Guitar Hero Arcade is being tested somewhere so we can put that rumor to rest. ;)

uBeat now testing in the UK

We’ve received word from Konami that their newest and certainly unique bemani title uBeat is now testing at Tenpin Bowl, in Acton, West London. According to the release we received (that you can find after the post break), uBeat has been “hugely popular in overseas markets” so if you are in the area where this is testing, it’s your chance to go and see what the buzz is all about. They say that the game will not be there much longer but they do want people who play the game to let them know what they think (e-mail link after the jump as well).

I wonder how much longer the game will be out testing after this is complete - it would be great to see it released before the end of the year.

Incredible Technologies has announced that they will begin shipping the latest installment of the Golden Tee series this coming Monday, which is great news for fans of GT who have been waiting patiently for this game. Operators will also be happy to know that location test earnings have been “phenomenal” for the game and I know from AMOA that it also carries a low price tag to boot. We’ll have to keep an eye out for the youtube page where user videos will show up on, that’s one aspect of the game I’m interested in seeing function.

While this Monday marks the release of the game in the US and Canada, it will be shipping elsewhere around the world, including Europe, Australia, and South Africa within the next 4-6 weeks.

Early/rough SFIV arcade to console comparison

At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom is proudly demonstrating the latest betas of SFIV on the PS3 and Xbox 360 - which has led to questions about what differences there will be between the versions. Comments have been raised about the backgrounds and frame rate yet again - with the arcade version coming out on top. Of course the console versions are still in a beta state so it remains to be seen what will happen there and at this point it still isn’t clear how well the vs. online support will stack up on the console versions. Also provided to us by The Stinger Report are screenshots of each version so far. Naturally one can’t see the frame rate difference but it’s still a decent guideline to go off of for now:

Namco creates new group to focus on game development, bring more games overseas

While this news is a couple of days old already, I contacted Frank Cosentino of Namco (who also is the new head of this dept.) about the creation of Namco Amusement USA’s new Product Strategy Department and what that will mean exactly for Namco as well as operators. what this basically means is that Namco is now focusing extra attention on the development of new product (video & redemption) for the North & South Americas as well as Europe. Specifically in regards to the US, development teams in the US and Japan have “a number of projects on the table for the US market” and on top of that their “…ratio of US developed to Japanese developed has steadily increased. We are already over 50% Namco America product”. So essentially, Namco is ramping up production of product for the amusement sector and there are more games in the making than what we saw out of Japan recently. I also asked about pricing and Frank kindly responded :”Certainly, price is always in issue when considering development for the US. Both our team and the Japanese team is aware of the limitations of the price per play in the US. ” That’s always good to hear so we certainly look forward to seeing what Namco has up their sleeves in the coming months. IAAPA is going to be one show I’ll hate missing.

A Japanese arcade in Bangladesh

[Thanks to Oga Shi for sending this in]

If you live in the capital of Bangladesh and have a lot of money to spend, where better than in this Japanese arcade. Apparently this arcade there is quite popular with the upper class and of the games there, the top three are Virtua Racing, Virtua ON and Final Lap R. Virtua ON didn’t do terribly well outside of Japan from what I know but they certainly love it there. There is a short video tour below, that and the article via InterNew.jp.

News on Tekken 6 - looks like arcade version is superior

The Tokyo Game Show is in full swing right now and there is some arcade-related news to come out of it. Direct from the Stinger Report comes some interesting news about Namco’s Tekken 6 - a delay in the console release along with the consoles being inferior to the arcade version is certainly something to make arcade operators who have T6 already happy (console version pictures to the right):

Just as the report was going to the wire confirmation from the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) revealed that the home version of ‘Tekken 6 will not be launched in 2008, but in 2009 in September (fall) in Japan, with expectations of a Christmas launch for the rest of the world. This is considerably longer than any consumer web site or magazine speculated – makes questionable amusement executive decisions in the States and UK not to buy and operate T6 as they would not have enough time to recoup the greater

expense of the game. The Stinger questioned when first stated at ATEI’08 the futility of this move – now we see that a major opportunity has been squandered, especially as the game had major player appeal as seen by the crowds that caused the ‘Tekken incident’ at the London show.

Another issue that was revealed at the TGS launch of the first images of the game was that rather than being a Sony Playstation 3 exclusive, Namco Bandai Games would also be launching a Microsoft Xbox 360 version of the game at the same time – the home version would also include the characters and features from the AM-Show’08 launched update. This marks the first time that Namco has allowed the brawler series to be launched on another platform. The success of the Xbox LIVE network – and the failure for Sony to achieve momentum of their broadband network fuelling this move; however sources revealed that though the latest version of ‘Tekken 6 would be launched on the next-generation consoles – the actual functionality of the games will only be 85 per cent exact to the arcade version! The performance of the arcade System 357 Hardware and ALL.Net functionality seeming to surpass that achievable on the home platforms; this fact has been downplayed on many blogs and consumer news sites, but has fuelled heated debate on a number of forums towards the reality of getting an arcade ‘exact’ version of the game for home players.

With the launch of the new arcade ‘Tekken 6 update at AM-Show’08, the question will once again be raised that now there will be a definite 14 months till the consumer game release, would it not be wise to build on the player clamber for the ‘exact’ arcade version of the game, by reversing the decision not to import the title?

Interesting news for sure, especially in lue of some talk about how much better the console version of SFIV will be to it’s arcade counterpart.
