Atari's Sprint8/Indy 800 sort of returns with Konami's Motor X

So there are quite a number of new arcade games in development this year and for whatever reason quite a few of them are racing games. Now the racer has been a pillar of the arcade industry ever since the first racing games were released in the the early 70’s and thanks to that quite a few ideas have been tried out, some successful others a failure. It looks like one idea is making a comeback of sorts with Konami’s new gambling game called Motor X which looks to me like a modern version of the massive Sprint 8 / Indy 800 game by Atari / Kee Games back in 1975. I have never had the pleasure of trying out Indy 800 as they are quite rare but I imagine that it’s quite a blast to play with 8 people. Of course Motor X lacks the steering wheels and is really just a betting game but the idea of a large table with an overhead view of the track like this is something that I haven’t seen in a while and I wouldn’t mind seeing a something in the vein of Indy 800 again as it’s a little different than what we have seen in recent years.
