Pinball on TV

Stern has been on a roll lately. Indiana Jones seems to be doing well (it has been earning quite well at my place, I even had one person play it for 3 hours straight the other day) and they have more to come. On top of that they have been getting their name out there as is seen in this segment from the MSNBC Nightly News the other day.

Unfortunately wordpress doesn’t allow embedding from their site but you can click on the link below to watch the video in it’s entirety. It shows the new Indiana Jones and Shrek Pinball tables, some classic pins as they take a short look back at pinball and they even show Tokyo Drift when contrasting pinball to video games. Overall it’s a good video and as the one guy says towards the end, pinball is seeing a resurgence in popularity as of late, all Stern needs to do is keep it up (although hopefully they’ll have fewer releases like Wheel of Fortune and more like Indy).

Stern’s Indiana Jones is really great and better than their last titles IMHO… Let’s hope they’ll keep this level of goodness for their next products…

I have high hopes for Dark Knight. Not so much for CSI or 24 though. Pins seem to be better when they are based upon movies rather than TV shows, maybe it’s just me.

And Indy is great. Even though I am quite slow at the moment as far as numbers of people coming in, Indy has been doing exceptionally well.

You guys are on the ball as always – I had just penned this comment in our next report:

There was a little complaint from some sources that the [STERN television] coverage felt too much like a nostalgic report (rather than the promised rebirth industry slant), making the error of calling STERN the ‘only’ pinball manufacturer. Though STERN pinball may want to perpetuate this observation, this coverage ignores new start-ups such as Pinball Manufacturing Inc (PMI) – and their ‘Big Bang Bar’ pintable that went on sale this year. While the toy manufacturer Zizzle has also had a successful run of home pinball tables. Again STERN may stubbornly want to ignore the issue, but video pinball development has mushroomed with TAB Austria and Global VR, and new start-up 21st Century Entertainment who showed their new video table at ASI’08. One source questioned that trade association publicity budgets only seeming to be employed to publicizing the 25th anniversary of STERN; a company who has an agenda to obviously promote themselves above the industry. Coverage that can come across like ‘a stalwart company in a collapsed industry’, rather than showing sector rebirth as was the intention.
