Mini Arcade Cabs for kids in Korea

I thought that I had posted about something like this a long time ago but after using the search engine I couldn’t find anything about it so here we go. I have heard about these tiny cabinets before that were made just for kids and while the idea isn’t new (I know of a couple of games in the 80’s that used small cabs and were made for kids) it’s always interesting to see, especially where the only  time I have seen these types of cabinets in Korea is they are always red and they are always outside. Nice large screens though, those look like 25″ monitors but it’s hard to say really. I am surprised that there are more of these all over the place, just because a game is made for kids doesn’t mean that it doesn’t count (like with Pump It up Jump!). From the looks of things they haven’t made any special games for these cabinets and they mostly feature Neo Geo software. Thanks to reader Barrie for pointing this out.

Sega make tiny childrens cabinets for their Mushi King series of games. I’ve seen a guy on the Killer Cabs forum who’s converted one so he can play other games on it.

I have seen a couple of mini-cabs similar to those in the states too in pizza places around the midwest. They were all neo-geo and were heavily decorated to show that it was a true neo cab. Looked pretty legit and official to me.

Moving back to Korea in a month or so. I’ll keep my eye out for some of these and hopefully have a camera ready. They are small enough I could probably fit one in an officetel apartment if I ditch the TV. I’ve always wanted an MVS cabinet….
