Retro Space pays homage to Computer Space

Yeah, yeah yeah, another home arcade cabinet. This one however pays homage to a particular game known as Computer Space. It’s not completely identical to the 1970’s classic, but there’s enough there to evoke memories of Nolan Bushnell’s arcade game. Namely the bright yellow cabinet and the lady in white!

It’s kind of funny how the old CS pic the lady had on some nearly transparent lingerie but this one is more modest. It would have been even better had the cabinet been made out of fiberglass like the old CS was. 😛

I think the fibreglass cabinet was the main reason the original game tanked. It cost a fortune to manufacture so Bushnell never made any money on it.

Perhaps although Atari did use fiberglass on Space Race later although that game never went anywhere either. I just think the fiberglass designs look cool.

the fiberglass was the least of the problem – the monitor in 1971 cost a fortune, and was about as reliable as a kick in the crown jewels.

That and the game was too complex for a culture that had never been exposed to video games before.
