Sega's plans for upcoming shows

Shaggy September 9, 2008 0

Sega has issued a press release detailing some of the things that we can expect to see at their upcoming events, including a few games we have already heard of (or played), Rambo and Sega Rally 3. Rambo has actually got a face lift and according to the photo we received (which is still prototype but likely that this is the final design) it appears that Rambo now sports the guns we saw on Ghost Squad Evolution instead of House of the Dead 4. They also have a pic of the twin non-deluxe version of SR3. While not mentioned in the release, I would not be surprised if they have a few other games at these shows including titles we’ve previously covered such as R-Tuned Racing, Hummer Extreme and House of the Dead EX. All three of those games are supposed to be released by the end of the year so it would be strange for Sega not to show them off in some form and Hummer Extreme has already been tested in the US.

I have heard that Sega will have Rambo and SR3 at AMOA tomorrow, which I will be going too for a short time tomorrow and part of Thursday, I’ll try and get some video of it time permitting. I did notice that Sega’s booth at AMOA is a bit larger than what they had at ASI and in the press release after the jump they say that at ATEI they will have their largest booth ever so it should be interesting to see.

From London Preview to ATEI its Show Season all the Way!

Sega Amusements is preparing to kick start its show season in true dominant style as it looks ahead to having presence at 10 international shows over the next 5 months.

The European and American territories that fall under the auspices of Paul Williams will notably be at London Preview, IAAPA and finally in January, with its largest stand ever, at ATEI.

The London Preview, being a focus for many trade players post summer season, will see three new important pieces for winter 08 onwards. Firstly continuing on from the success of SEGA RALLY 3 deluxe that was launched in June with 62” monitor and full motion, the title will be shown in a new twin cabinet as part of its global launch. Featuring exclusive licensed World Rally Cars and a revisit to one of the original Rally 1 stages, the software is highly developed into a fine driving game that is worthy of it heritage. The twin version with its 32 inch screens can be linked up to 6 players.

Secondly Sega brings a Hollywood Blockbuster to the amusement sector with the launch of RAMBO – a two player deluxe gun game. Based on the hit movies the big screen game features real movie footage spliced with Sega’s legendary graphics powered on the Lindbergh board. The cinematic feel is enhanced with a bass woofer speaker. “Seeing Sty Stallone’s famous character straight from the movie has a big impact when you first see it in an arcade, it certainly makes it a draw for players. Added with the big recoil machine guns the game is set for box office success”, stated Sega’s Justin Burke.

Focusing on the success of redemption and the popular licensed character Sponge Bob, Sega will show its successfully tested SPONGE BOB TICKET BOOM. A simple game that is good fun for the player and gives and great value for money – the formula for any successful redemption game. The big and bold machine features a ‘runway’ of running coloured lights that the player must jump on at the right time, all under Sponge Bob’s instruction. Various test sites over the summer have tested with income levels up to £800 and averaging at £500 per week.

Commenting on the next UK show Sega’s Justin Burke commented, “It’s always great to be at London Preview and this year is no exception as we have a strong line up to offer. Along with the new titles we will show UFO Catcher, Mini Rider 2, Shoot This Win This and have representatives from Sega Total Solutions, Sega Prize Europe and the sales team for all territories on hand. There will be an enhanced line up for IAAPA and finally we have yet again increased our stand size at ATEI as our title line up by them will have grown even more – all good news to make 2009 a good year for all concerned”.

That game looks sweet. It instantly caught my attention. If I were in an arcade and saw that machine sitting there, I would want to go play it. However with that said, it probably costs an arm and a leg for operators, and likely costs $2 a play.

We are still site testing Rambo and our machine still has the original guns, the Ghostsquad guns may be for the US market? I’ll ask tomorrow as I would be quite interested to know.

PS, this machine won’t be any dearer than Ghostsquad Evo/House of the Dead 4 etc.

The Ghost Squad guns did catch me off guard as I completely expected them to have the same guns. It might be a US only thing as perhaps the game tested better here with them who knows. I think it’s a good move though as those guns feel like something Rambo would use. Perhaps they’ll change it for the UK release as well.

@ Rooks – unfortunately it looks like both games are going to cost a ton of cash – one vendor website has Rambo listed at $20k – after taxes it will certainly cost $21 or $22k easy. I really hope that they don’t go with that price – it seems like every popular game coming out has to have some absurd price that will make it impossible for us smaller ops to get a hold of it.

I don’t know how many of you are Stinger readers – but we have been reporting that a number of new SEGA releases are in kit (update units) for all the unsold hardware, so:

    – RAMBO, for unsold HotD4 and TS machines
    – R-TUNE, for unsold RaceTV
    …etc,

Why these are still soooo! expensive is not a good thing.

I might have missed that, I do read my Stinger’s but sometimes I miss a thing or two since I read so fast. 🙂 At least they are doing kits but like you said, if they are horribly expensive then it’s hard to go with it.

HOTD4 all sold out in Europe, but yes plenty of Race TV’s left for conversion.

We have R-Tune on test in November, I don’t think it’s going to make Preview 2008.

Rambo will have Ghost Squad guns in US/Europe, but HOTD4 in Japan apparantly.

Also hearing HOTD EX may not make Europe, it’s gone across the pond for site test, but there’s not one over here, that’s quite unusual.

You know better than us Bowlplex – it seems that Sega are focused on reshaping. I get the feeling only one in five of the new JAMMA releases will make US landfall, and two in five for UK.

Heard anything about this new soccer system?

    New soccer system? WCCF 06/07?

The Ghost Squad guns on Rambo aren’t a terrible shock. If you check out the report I did on the Basingstoke Bowlplex test, I noted that they were using those guns (and even took a picture for confirmation). The new cabinet looks pretty neat though, I’m looking forward to the finished game.

Sega did consider HOTD3 guns (based on consumer feedback), luckily enough alternate feedback was given from operators about the dreadful reliability and cost of these guns.

Whoops HV, I admit that I forgot that.

The cabinet design shown at AMOA is a bit different from what you see above, the video is processing on youtube now and I should have it ready for the site shortly.

SR3 is a great game, I didn’t get to play it much but I had fun.
