Sega developing a Let's Go Jungle sequel, but is it for arcades or consoles? UPDATED – Arcade game only

Shaggy January 9, 2010 16

The battle of the sit-down turret light-gun games might be heating up a little more as Siliconera is reporting that Sega has trademarked the name Let’s Go Island: Lost on the Island of Tropics in Europe. Whether this is an arcade title or a console title is unknown at the moment – it isn’t often that we learn about new arcade titles via trademarks although it can happen on a rare occasion. A sequel to LGJ in arcades would make sense, especially with Namco prepping their new sit-down shooter Dead Storm Pirates for release in Q2 of this year. Other than that all we can do is speculate about this until Sega reveals more – if it is an arcade title then I imagine that this will take advantage of one of Sega’s new hardware platforms (Ringedge/Ringwide or if it’s being developed by Sega Europe, perhaps Europa-R could another title beyond SR3?) where it could be a good showcase title for either piece of hardware. Or perhaps it could be an upgrade kit for existing LGJ machines. Hopefully, we will hear more soon.

UPDATE: If you read our comments then you will find out that this is an arcade title(thanks Kevin Williams for that confirmation), not a console port so anyone with a hope for that can throw that out the window for now. Hopefully we will be finding out more soon at one of the upcoming European trade shows.

It won’t be available as an upgrade kit.

LGJ, due to the nature of the cab design, they tend to get used as a ‘den of iniquity’ and are usually heavily vandalised and don’t stand the test of time very well.
Couple this with the fact that the cabs were very poorly made (in Europe at least), they leek like sieves all over the game boards, the guns fall to pieces, no screen protection, the Sony screens are failing at an alarming rate due to a bad design flaw not allowing the lamp to cool after switching off and the start button panels come off.

If Sega try and use the same cabinet design on the new game then they won’t sell many!

I know what you mean bowlplex. the guns are either broke, not calabrated propperly, no vibration from the guns, the screens gone all one colour. action buttion panel are loose and buttion are jammed and the graphics are faulty. my favourite gun game but doesn’t survive the beatings very long. if they do another one they better do a better job with manufactering all of them

if its been trade marked in europe then I’m guessing its going to be a console port. I’d rather it be another arcade sequal than a console game because its not like there aren’t enough games to choose from already and with more still coming out. it would be great if it was another arcade game though especially if they add a new feature e.g. a joystick that act as a paddle or guard simular to namcos dead storm pirates 😀

Cant go into too much detail, but its arcade, and you will be surprised (and shaken) by the cabinet design! More news end of next week.

so its officially arcade then thats good to know and its got me excited. so I take it the games sequal is being made in the uk just like sega rally 3 was, they may use the europa r hardware but due to ammount it cost to make its not likley but since europa ‘s made in europe and lets go jungle is in the same league such as outrun daytona, THOTD etc it too is also possibility. just imagine those beautiful rendered sharp graphics like what we saw in sega rally 3. but I really hope the cabinet quality is gonna be better them the one now

can you at least say if it will make a surprise appearance at atei 2010or not? it will be tough yet interesting competition between dead storm pirates and LGJ sequal if they do get released at the same time this year I’m sure there both gonna be great 😀

This is great news. I hope the cabinet has palm trees or something crazy.

Bowlplex – you made me laugh with “den of iniquity”. The arcade near me has the stand-up version on lgj. So no sneaky vandalism 🙂

It won’t be at ATEI, Sega will be at EAG Expo, assuming this title get’s a preview there.

I strongly doubt it’s a European build, nor will it use Europa hardware.

We didn’t get the upright version over here in Europe, shame because it would have sold more units.

then why is it trade marked in europe? the mini LGJ cabinets look a little bit dual though compared to other cabinet designs, but I do wonder why they never released that version as well as the deluxe version. think it might use the ringedge actually now that you mention it as europa r is an expensive piece of hardware even for something like LGJ. I do wonder if the game has a controller of some sort like the steering wheel in namco dead storm pirates

Yeah, Europa hardware will probably not show up on anything else- just pure hope on my part. But if it uses Ringedge I’ll be happy.

So who here is going to ATEI or EAG? While we have had someone from AH at one of the UK shows since the site started, I have not heard from Matt or Nick in a long time now so I don’t know if they will be going or not.

Hey Shaggy, thanks for checking if I would be there 😉

I will be there at both (thanks for asking) and will take some images.

I can confirm that this is an arcade release and that there will be footage of it playing at EAG, but the cab design is not completed or not ready to be shown.

    lol Bowlplex
Ur first comment made me laugh. I have the fantastic job of maintaining one of these machines. Just bought another couple globes for it this week.

Don’t get me started on the cabinet build. Break-ins have meant that our center console bit has been almost entirely rebuild out of metal to replace the flimsy wood.

All my cabs have had the centre console strengthened due to vandalism, break-ins etc. 🙁

I hear that ALL future Sega dedicated games will be built in China to a universal standard.
This should standardise all cabinet components and lead to no more ‘improvisation’ across different manufacturing plants.

I played the first one at an arcade near me in the US. I hope the sequel will be released on US shores, the graphics on the first one were superb and I think it deserves a Wii port cause the lightgun controls are very innovative. Hopefully Sega will pull this out of their asses on this game, just like the old genesis games.
