Kevin Williams of The Stinger Report sent us along this photo of one of the new Gran Turismo 5 making it’s out-of-home debut as a simulator. Unfortunately we didn’t get information on where this picture was taken or what details there are on the machine itself but it’s interesting to see Sony doing something like this, taking the arcade/simulator route with the game. Judging by the picture above it appears that they have made this for special locations but who knows if they decide to give this version of the game a wider release at some point. Sony hardware has been used in arcades before, particularly with Capcom and Namco games building hardware based upon the PS1, 2 and 3 and we’ve seen console games ported to arcades recently, such as the case of Sega/Codemaster’s GRID.

This is a better choice than GRID for the arcade, not because GT5 is better but because it’s only just been released. Also, any coin-op version of GT5 should concentrate on the faster cars and the better tracks. Would also be nice there was a clutch option (a la BGT4 Professional) and structured internet rankings.
