NG:DEV TEAM bringing Last Hope Pink Bullets to the NeoGeo MVS

arcadehero December 28, 2010 3

Earlier this year a development team based in Germany released a brand new shmup title for the NeoGeo MVS called Fast Striker. The game has been well received at several Japanese game centers and they even released some new software for the game (it can be updated via a USB stick) to offer new modes for extreme bullet hell players.

NG:DEV TEAM isn’t done supporting the MVS yet as they have announced a very limited run of carts for their Dreamcast based shmup Last Hope. The MVS version called Last Hope Pink Bullets is a side scrolling shooter in the vein of something like Blazing Star or R-Type and uses NG:DEVTEAM’s new MVS cart design which allows for USB upgrades down the road. Here is a trailer of Last Hope for the Dreamcast.

More details on the game including ordering info can be found @ NG:DEV.DIRECT

Speaking of Dreamcast ports to the arcade, I wonder if Duranik, the team behind the upcoming shmup Strumwind for the DC would consider doing an Atomiswave port?

Atomiswave? Why not just port to Naomi?

Atomiswave only uses carts, which the developer would have to produce on their own, as well as break any copy protection the hardware would have… it would probably be far easier to just try and get it to run on NAOMI or simply port it to custom hardware (such as the ARM-based board NG:DEVTEAM is supposedly working on).

Atomiswave is still supported by Sega (at least with a couple of kits Sega USA has released in the past couple of years) and perhaps they could get approval without needing to resort to breaking copy protection. Unless NAOMI has had the protection broken (I talked to Sega about NAOMI development a little while ago and the development documentation and materials sounds like it’s a little difficult to get a hold of).

Also Atomiswave is JAMMA so that would expand the number of cabinets the game could go into over NAOMI’s custom wiring harness. But honestly I think it would be great to have on either platform. 🙂

That is an interesting rumor about NG’s ARM-based machine. I wonder how that will turn out.
