How does one train to become a master Street FIghter IV player? By running around various parts of Japan carrying an arcade stick to practice your moves in your mind. This is a great video that features a remix of the famous Eye of the Tiger song as the hipster in the video runs around with his arcade stick preparing for some Street Fighter IV battles at the end of his day. The arcade seen at the end here is known as Shibuya Kaikan Monaco, which you can see from an internet search already has made quite a name for itself and with good reason. I guess that this video shows off plenty of nice spots to visit in Tokyo, but I wouldn’t know since I’ve never been there. And speaking of Tokyo, if you haven’t heard yet, Japan was hit by a massive tsunami triggered by an 8.9 magnitude quake, the most powerful in Japan’s recorded history. There have been over 100 earthquakes recorded off the coast in the past week, most within the past few hours. My thoughts and prayers are with the people affected by this event, as well as other recent disasters such as the one that hit Christchurch New Zealand a few weeks ago. Here are some photos showing some of the devastation Japan is facing at the moment.

But getting back on topic, here is the video, produced by Geek Station. They will be making an English version soon.

Just wanted to pass on our condolences to those affected by the quake – and hope that all we know and their families and friends in Japan are safe.

Our hopes are with you all.

The earthquake (and even moreso the tsunami) is certainly devastating and the people of Japan are in my prayers. At least the damage was a lot less than it could have been (as well as most other country’s earthquakes) because of the incredible architectural codes and precautions that are taken to make their buildings withstand these things. Still, horrible to see all the destruction and loss of lives.

Also, about the video, I was surprised to see him go at it one player after all that training–I was under the impression he was preparing for a tournament, or at least a match against a professional player. Perhaps he was going for a speed run?

I hope that they recover alright. A lot of the arcades are closed for now especially as they are rationing electricity and that’s not to mention the possible fallout from the sky. My heart goes out to all of them, my favourite culture too. At least it was only the north east japan but it still very terrible. It will really hurt the Japanese arcade industry I bet but it might be ok in the end.
