GlobalVR’s official press release for “Shh…! Welcome to Frightfearland”

(Thanks to Kevin Williams of The Stinger Report for the press release)

At Amusement Expo 2011, the surprise video game revelation of the show was Frightmareland, found at the GlobalVR booth. You can read more about the history on that here. Today, they issued a press release about the game and for some reason they decided to change the name to SHH…! Welcome to Frightfearland. I’ll just call it Frightfearland for short but I still prefer Frightmareland as the new name just doesn’t roll off the tongue very well. Either way, the game is available now and it comes in two versions, 42″ & 50″ editions.

Anyways, the press release can be found below, it describes what the game is about and also gets into the new relationship that Taito and GlobalVR have forged over the game. Another curious thing I noticed in the PR is that GVR is apparently in the market for developing mobile apps for the iPad, iPhone, iTouch and Android platforms. I wasn’t aware that they were branching out into that area, I wonder if they will be taking a page from Namco America and producing an app that compliments their arcade titles.

GLOBAL VR® STRIKES A DEAL WITH TAITO FOR RIGHTS TO ITS LATEST BLOCKBUSTER…SHH! Welcome to FRIGHTFEARLAND™

Scary Clowns are front and center in this made-for-arcade action shooter

SAN JOSE, Calif and TOKYO, Japan – (March 23, 2011) – GLOBAL VR and Taito have entered into an agreement granting the US manufacturer exclusive rights in North America, South America and Russia for the highly anticipated SHH! Welcome to Frightfearland. The title made its debut at the Amusement Expo in Las Vegas March 2011 and the Amusement Machine Operator’s Union Expo (AOU) in Tokyo this past February where, at both events, the game was the hit of the show.

Another collaborative project by Taito and Gamewax, this fresh new title brings together addictive game play elements and bad guys that players love to hate…the dreaded “scary clowns”. Set in a dilapidated amusement park, players have the task of finding and rescuing 100 hostages being kept in the park as they get rid of clowns and other lunatic carnival characters. As one of the two heroes of the game, players will travel through 15 distinct and beautifully rendered levels, and one bonus level, where they will meet up with 6 bosses in an attempt to find and free the captive characters. They will also be treated to many mini-games where skill and dexterity add to the score totals. A two-player cooperative game, this eye catching game boasts high-definition in-game graphics and a simple to use interface appropriate for players of all ages.

“We are extremely excited about this game and about our relationship with Taito,” stated Ken Bayer, GLOBAL VR President. “We believe that this is exactly the type of game that distributors and operators have been waiting for and based on the reaction at the Amusement Expo we expect this game to be a huge hit. It’s not the same sort of shoot’em up the industry has seen over the past several years. It brings a brand new definition to the word “fun!”

When asked about the game and relationship with GLOBAL VR, Akira Saito – Chief Producer for Taito commented, “GLOBAL VR has an excellent reputation for bringing quality games to market. We are confident that SHH! Welcome to Frightfearland will be a world-wide success.”

SHH! Welcome to Frightfearland is offered in 42” or 50” high-definition monitor models and is available immediately. Please contact your local GLOBAL VR distributor for more information about this exciting new game or other GLOBAL VR products.

This actually reminds me of carnevil, and that was a good shooting game.

I bet they changed the name due to copyright reasons.

Wasn’t Global VR the company responsible for Pac Man VR and that other obscure line of virtual reality stuff? If so, looks like they’re climbing up the ladder to mainstream releases. Pretty cool.
