The chain of Family Entertainment Centers known as TImezone has now opened nearly 20 stores in Australia, with many others in other parts of the world.  The latest one in Australia is found in the Forest Hill Chase Shopping Mall, which is some miles out of Melbourne Victoria in Australia. The facility actually opened it’s doors last month in March but we only received the press release about it now. We don’t know the exact size or game list of the facility but some titles mentioned include Stern’s Avatar Pinball, Barber Cut Lite(Namco), Cannon Ball Blast(Baytek), Mad Wave(TrioTech), Stacker Double Up(LAI) and Winners Cube(Andamiro). More details can be found in the press release below

Timezone Opens a new store in Forest Hill Shopping Mall, Australia

On the 12th of March 2011, Timezone Australia launched its new store at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre, bringing FUN closer to the East Coast residents. Forest Hill is located 27km out of Melbourne Victoria whilst the Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre provides an exciting array of F&B, retail and entertainment. Timezone Forest Hill store is strategically located at the third level next to JB HI FI and AMF Bowling.

In line with Timezone vision as a family-focused FEC, the new store machine mix caters for all ages. With our concerns for ‘on trend’ players, Timezone has invested to introduce numbers of new released machines such as Avatar Pinball, Barber Cut Lite, Cannon Ball Blast, Mad Wave, Stacker Double Up and Winners Cube.

The crowd at the Forest Hill Store Opening was overwhelming. Thanks to several promotional offers and radio broadcast in Melbourne, the awareness of the new store is growing and the increasing takings beyond our expectation.

David Shimell is pleased to confirm that after the opening of Forest Hill yet another new Centre is in progress which will take the number of outlets in Australia to 19.

Both the message and the press release release I received both stated that this is the 19th store. Did they leave out a 9?

19th in Australia. This one is company owned, most the others in Australia are franchised stores reeled in by Timezone’s Embed card swipe crediting system.

Timezone are also in Indonesia, Singapore, New Zealand, The Philippines, India and Vietnam.

I used to live 10 minutes from 5 Forest Hill. There have been a number of arcades there over the years; most recently an Asian-targetted centre with lots of fighting games.

This would be the first new Timezone opened in Australia in a LONG time. Arcades were decimated in Australia in the late 90’s, not just due to the usual suspects (consoles) but also to a unique local factor – the incredible changes in the property market, so many CBD arcades were sold so the building could be torn down and redeveloped as yet another boring bunch of expensive flats.

I *should* be able to get some photos via a Melbourne contact for you soon…. 🙂

Was Planet Earth one of them?

thanks for the local color Gabe – we have to remember that the Australian market was mainly decimated by the changes in local laws towards gaming and gambling. Australian has a major problem gambling situation – and the reemergence of amusement is against local councils still reeling from the bad judgment they used previously about gaming.
