The Rockin Roller Mobile Arcade

While arcades are generally known as fixed locations, in recent times that hasn’t always been the case with new mobile arcade gamerooms. Take a truck trailer, cram it with arcades and rent it out for parties. While the game selection is often limited because of space (which also shows why it’s still good to have compact cabinets for sale), it’s still a great way to bring some arcade gaming goodness into arcades where such a location might not be feasible. The latest company to do this is The Rockin Roller Mobile Arcade LLC, based in New Jersey, USA and covering NJ, PA and DE. As the website says, they have a “34-foot mobile arcade offers 70 classic games on over 10 real, full-size arcade games.”

You can see more pictures and info about it at the company website.

Speaking of a moving event, The Stinger Report also provided us with a link where Capcom is running a “Fight Club UK” where players will be able to play the latest console Capcom games which used to enjoy being arcade games, at various different locations. Apparently they think that this model of bringing the games to various pubs is less of a hazard than arcades themselves. [Capcom Europe]

“70 classic games on over 10 real, full size arcade games” How can they fit so many games in such a tiny space? Oh that’s right, there’s an illegal multicade in there.

Good point, I didn’t pay attention to that

From Capcom-EU: “Remember the good ol’ days, when you could wander along to the local arcade, hang out, play some fighting games, have your money stolen and go home sobbing? Amazing days, now sadly gone forever. Fortunately, something else is now amazing – Capcom’s imminent UK Fight Club tour!”

*sight* I’m fed up of that attitude! Misinformation at its best! Basically they say: “Arcade is dead and won’t come back you know, but we can provide you with a bit of the same, albeit a little less good but at least it comes from us.”

“Have your money stolen”? Price of a new Xbox 360 + SSF4AE game: 276 €. Price of a game at the arcade: 0,50 € / play. So I can play 552 games of SSFIV AE at the arcade for the price they want me to pay to play their game. And I don’t count the TV set and the second joystick. Where is the steal?

Awesome! This is just what I’m planning to set up here in New Zealand. If you can’t get the people to the arcade, take the arcade to the people.

I’ve thought about this in the past, but wasn’t sure anyone actually did this legally. How do things like zoning laws apply if you are only parked temporarily in a spot for a few hours? 🙂 Japanese sit down cabs would be the best hardware for a tight setup like this.
