Namco to debut Dark Escape 3D at JAMMA ’11

Next week in Japan, the JAMMA Expo will take place and with it, new games will be announced. As is typical, some of those announcements come before the show and today Namco has unveiled a new horror light-gun game that uses 3D. Called Dark Escape 3D, we don’t have much information beyond that, and the image above of the very eye-catching cabinet. Judging by this theater cabinet, my guess is that they have shelved Deadstorm Pirates 3D which was supposed to be released this summer in favor of this new game. With that my guess will also have to be mounted light-guns, possibly some other control element(DSP had the pirate wheel, perhaps this will have something new and unique to add as well). What should be interesting is if they will have come up with their own autostereoscopic 3D display to compete with Sega’s Let’s Go Island 3D or if it will use glasses. We’ll know soon enough as JAMMA takes place next week. Horror games usually seem to do well in arcades, I have an old Midway CarnEvil at my arcade that still does nicely for the age.

It’s worth noting that Namco America plans to bring this game over to the US so we’ll pay extra attention to this one when more details become available.

This won’t be the only title Namco will be showing off, as they will also be showcasing Maximum Tune 4 and Tekken Tag Tournament 2, among others. We’ll be keeping an eye on the event in case there is anything else, along with details on this game when they come along.

Intergame has it wrong, which is surprising as the link they have on that page takes you to the AM show website where it points out that the show starts on the 15th:

Wow. I didn’t think it was far along enough to be shown yet. Should be really cool. A lot of cool elements to make this game a truly unique out-of-home entertainment experience.

Anything you can share with us yet since most details will be in Japanese next week? 🙂 I wondered if this would also be coming to the US just due to the name already being shown in English.

I’ll wait until more details become available during JAMMA. After that, I can clarify or further explain the details of the game. I don’t know exactly what elements the cabinet will contain so I don’t want to talk about anything that won’t be shown or isn’t completely developed just yet.

Our plans are to bring the game out of Japan.

Well we got dead storm pirates so this will deffinatly be coming as it looks as though its aimed towards the western market due to the cabinet design with its horror gothic theme. I do wonder if this game uses a unique conteoller like dead storm pirates did 🙂

Hey arcade heroes any idea what hardware this game uses? Since the game is in 3D I wonder if it will use more powerful hardwaresince the PS3 hardware is coming up to being 6 yeard old

Nope I haven’t heard. Mostly like one of the PS3 based (System 357 or 359) or the PC-based (ES1 or 2) hardware. PS3 hardware would make sense given that platforms ability to do 3D but PC can do it even better so as far as guesstimating goes, I’m not sure 🙂
