Sega’s Operation G.H.O.S.T. in motion

(Via The Stinger Report)

We’ve seen pictures and talked about it a bit already but now, we finally get to see the game briefly in action – Sega’s follow-up to GHOST Squad, Operation GHOST. It’s a bit brief and shows only the attract mode (I love the LED lighting effects for it, that’s certainly eye-catching) but it’s something either way. I also realize now why do a sequel to GS – given the apparently insatiable thirst for gamers to get into modern war games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, this taps right into that vein, giving arcaders something new and different to play in the genre. The only major questions now I suppose are how much will it cost and when will it be available?

BTW – I was corrected on something, this uses RingWide, not RingEdge hardware.

UPDATE: New Trailer added, this is the official one to show direct footage of the game, still uses that weird theme song though. The second one which we posted yesterday is just to show off the LED effects on the cabinet. Nice to see Sega Amusements UK doing some more pushing of their games via Youtube since the Japanese side posts quite a lot of content for their arcade games.

Looks good, but the song…dear God…my ears…*sticks pencils in ear drums*

Thats a bummer that it only uses ringwide and not the ringedge. I hope the graphical outcome will be much better and sharper than lets go island was running that game. Why make the ringedge at all if its only being used for one game. If they’re gonna do that they may as well used the europa sega hardware used for sega rally 3 for bored breakers instead of wasting money like that, what a joke no wonder sega are making cut backs in the amusement sector. I hope this new sega hardware sounds interesting when they anounce it soon :/

I seriously wonder if you can place too many hopes on this titles – the move to new hardware is in the works, but all games up to 2013 will have to be able to run on current XB360 / PS3 when ported.

The rumor of the new Dreamcast2 are just rumors – and as no space has been booked at TGF for a big launch I think that the rumors are just that.

All that said – be ready for a big surprise at JAMMA next week 🙂

I always like big surprises, too bad I won’t be able to go there and see it first hand :\

Believe the song is sang by the Japanese guy who did the vocal in Daytona USA 2 (Japan vocal set).

The hardware is really underpowered, Golden Gun/Let’s go Island all no better than 7 year old Lindbergh hardware.

There is cost cutting, and cost cutting, when you see games like Terminator Salvation which look so superior to say Rambo.

I don’t know what the hell LEDs become a selling feature, gameplay is more important than LED effects IMO, let’s just hope it is a nice game and not another lemon.

I certainly agree that the LEDs aren’t a primary reason to buy/play the game, I do like seeing a new idea tried out though. I do notice a short delay between the scanner effect on the screen and the LED effect though. I’d still like to see how it works exactly in-game.

I admit that I haven’t played GHOST Squad before so I’m not sure what to expect here as far as will OG be better or worse in areas.

With the cost cutting what will be telling is will OG be sold at a lower, same or greater price than Terminator? Of course who knows the exact budget for OG – we know that Terminator cost $4 million so it would be great to know the OG numbers and compare. Seeing how Terminator is still the strongest gun game on the market it would be fascinating to know.

Not sure with the “…cost $4 million…” on ‘Terminator Salvation’ – Raw Thrills used Play Mechnix to undertake the game – and a lot of people have commented on its similarity to ‘Aliens Salvation’ game they did for GVR. So no new engine and no new graphics pallet, all that said the license was crippling as they thought the film was going to be bigger.

The graphics on the SEGA game is a surprise – especially as they make a big play on the new hardware release. However I would like to play the game before I give my final opinion. The ‘Golden Gun’ release was older graphic engine given to a first time Chinese studio – so seeing a game that looks similar that uses a AAA Japanese team would make us all concerned.

The LED styling (or as we call it Bling) has allowed games to stand out from older releases – the same way that the car manufacturers go for extreme styling changes to distinguish 2010 from 2011 makes. The Bling is a means to also encourage operators to remove the older machines in the face of attractive new designed cabinets.

The $4 million price tag quote came from an article written by a Play Mechanix employee for Game Developer Magazine. If you would like to read the article I’ll see if I can find it online or send you a scan Editor.

The RINGEDGE is nothing more than a mere mid range board. Simluar to System 32,Model 3 and Europa R. It was never intended to be the successor to LINDBERGH.

Oh and the S3gaLeaks blog is an imposter. The REAL Zachary Morris no longer runs a blog. I have his contact PM info on another site.

I have realible sources who have told me that the CPU of the new board will be either a Fujitsu SPARC Venus 8 or Hitachi ARM 8 cored 64-bit. SEGA has no plans to use PC hardware because they’re looking for a mircoprocessor capable of 8 Core L3 Chache preformance. The new board is believed to be called “RINGWAVE”.

Also, SEGA IS INDEED preparing to officially return to the hardware business. The rumored new console goes by the codenamed “Super System” and “FUTURA”(This name appears in a Sony Computer Entertainment Survey.)

Of course it’s all a hoax, Sega fans just can’t accept the fact that they left the home console business and so waste bandwidth dreaming of their glorious return. You ignore all realities such as a terrible worldwide economy and always have “reliable sources” who are mysteriously unnamed all the time and for some reason never share these rumors with credible journalists, which if you were going to release a new console Sega would want to share with people like that and not random Sega fans on the net. I’m sorry you guys waste so much of your time getting excited about things that don’t exist and frankly I’m tired of dealing with it here so all future rumor talk of Sega consoles will simply be deleted because it’s pointless and what we care about here are arcade games anyways.

BTW- Last time with Ringedge/Ringwide, the rumors were also “backed up” with patents and such so you’ll have to do better than that. An old survey by Sony, big whoop. Meant about as much as WalMart accidentally putting Sega as a system for a console game release because someone wasn’t paying attention. Also for all the talk of people having the inside scoop on Sega’s next piece of arcade hardware, I’ve noticed a glaring omission of what it’s will be capable of and no it has nothing to do with raytracing.

I think that its best to set some things straight before JAMMA – and it would be good for me to reply once – rather than attempt to answer all the individual questions.

-SEGA’s New Systems? – The proposed launch seems to have changed since our source revealed it – not sure if this linked to the rumors of the TGS media event – or if this is just cause of the problems of managing expectations?

-How did you know it was a RINGWIDE game? – We were officially told by SEGA to correct our reporting – we have direct links to SAE and SAJ. I know that the consumer game media have had no luck getting information from the amusement divisions – this is because they are very sensitive and try only to work with those in the amusement trade.

-Why is JAMMA so small? – It is what it is in the post Quake and Downturn environment in Japan. The restrictions on power usage have hit the TGS as well as the AM-Show – there is also the issue of the changes in the Japanese market with self operation (factories now operating more and more).

-Are you still writing for EDGE? – Yes – I supply a small arcade report on new releases each month – the next one will be on TouchFX – though we have the new SEGA arcade release scheduled soon. This is the only arcade coverage in the main-stream media so is important though I know some are dismissive.

        Hope this helps.
