5th Avenue Frogger

(Thanks to Adam Coate for the Tip)

How do you make a classic game like Frogger more exciting? By using augmented reality and getting real time road traffic input for the game of course. That is what Tyler deangelo, Renee Lee and Ranjit Bhatnagar have done, knighting it as Fifth Avenue Frogger. As you can see from the video below, they take real time traffic data using a webcam from Fifth Avenue New York and feed that data into a modified Frogger arcade machine (the software has been changed as well) where people passing by can take a spin on the game.

Namco’s old game Golly Ghosts gun game would be another great way of using augment reality and instead of using a real time backdrop they could use live footage from security cameras and ghost would appear from out of cars, entrance doors and other real time location on the cctv footage plus it would make the game well worth repeating more since it wouldn’t be the same at all everytime you played just like namco razing storm with AI enermies. Another thing would be in order to find the ghost that go off screen would be to switch cameras like police do to track and located criminals 🙂
