It’s been a little while since we’ve heard anything from the GlobalVR front, the last game they released was about this time last year called The Swarm. I have heard rumors that their next project was a driving game of some kind but there was no indication as to when it would make its way to the market. While we still do not know that exact release date, thanks to a video published on GlobalVR’s Youtube page today, we know what it is.
The title is called Redline Rampage and it is a vehicular combat arcade game. Judging by the video it seems similar to Sega’s still-unreleased K.O. Drive but with better quality graphics (the video only goes up to 480p but the environments appear to have a more photorealistic quality to them than KOD has). I reached out to GVR about the game and whether it will be at IAAPA or not – they did confirm that it will not be there but they will have some literature about the game available then. The game will be at Amusement Expo 2014 however. Also I have confirmed that it will be linkable up to 4 units – no cabinet to show off yet since that is still going through the development process. The past couple of GVR releases featured games that were ports of PC games with major changes to them, such as Twisted and The Swarm. But so far I cannot find a game that is exactly like this so it might be an entirely new creation. The closest I can find is a racing game from 1999 called Redline, which was a psuedo-sequel to a 1993 game for the Atari Lynx called BattleWheels. Those games were also about vehicular combat but they also featured play where you could run around outside of your car and shoot things, which the new GVR title does not appear to have (it would also be a little quirky to have both elements in an arcade title). Until we find out more we can only speculate. In the meantime, what are your thoughts of a new vehicular combat game hitting the arcade market in 2014?
This seems a good competitor with KO Drive.
I just wonder, the Chinese came up with a 1080p 60hz game that could play in this pit, but certain distributors kill it?
I find it hard to see arcade releases that are not at this or better performance, but development of this content is expensive, and taking a off the shelf PC dev is easier.

I know this is an old article however I’m a huge fan of the PC versions of this game and recently found out about the Arcade machine (Never played it, sadly.) Just want to point out that the PC version released originally in 2012 under the name Gas Guzzlers Combat Carnage. An improved version was released in 2013 called Gas Guzzlers Extreme. In 2014 DLC: Full Metal Frenzy was released and this year DLC: Full Metal Zombie. I have my own set of custom built cabinets in my home that run this game more than any other.
