The Big Buck Hunter World Championship 2014 To Take Place In Minneapolis, MN

arcadehero June 26, 2014 0

For the past few years, Play Mechanix & Raw Thrills have held an annual world championship for their headlining arcade title Big Buck Hunter. It has become the tournament with the biggest prizes at stake among arcade gaming, with thousands of dollars in cash rewards being handed out to the top group of players. Thanks to the online system that has been in place since Big Buck Safari, it has allowed players around the world to compete from a local venue. If they are good enough to reach the top 64 then they make the trip to the competing city of choice to see if they can get the top prize. Previous cities have included Chicago and New York City but this time the tournament is headed to the home of some of the best Big Buck players, Minneapolis, MN. Once again they will have a Ladies Tournament and around $65,000 worth of prizes will be up for grabs (the press release says both $65,000 and $67,000 so we’ll just round down to a five). Details on the qualifier:

The journey begins August 18 as players must qualify at any connected Big Buck HD arcade game throughout the US, Canada and Australia. In order to secure one of the 64 coveted spots, players need to achieve a top score on each of the five animal adventures in the game. The qualifying period will end September 28. Players can track their progress on the qualifying leaderboard available at www.bigbuckhd.com.

The final tournament will happen on October 24th-25th. Good luck to the competitors out there!

Before I share the press release though, a little thought. They did make a big deal about all of the onlien features that Big Buck HD has, including future updates which would offer DLC. One update was really nice, where the Big Buck Arcade mode was added for free along with the Duck Dynasty content. The Big Buck Arcade mode really boosted earnings on the game for arcade locations (I don’t know about bar locations) so that was quite welcome. I am curious though about the DLC part – in the original marketing materials for the game it talked about giving operators the chance to download new locations and animals so I wonder if we will hear any news about that when the tournament rolls around (last year the Duck Dynasty content was unveiled at the tournament).
