Weekend News: Pinball Gremlins Funded; Emporium Logan Square Opens in IL; Name That Game #11

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the Summer is already half-way over. Depending on your perspective, that is either a good thing or a bad one. I’m fine with it staying warm for a nice long while but I know some people that can’t wait to go snowmobiling. Fortunately, no matter what time of year we are at, it is a good time to go out to your local arcade and have some fun!

First off, great news for pinball fans. VonnieD Pinball has successfully funded their Pinball Gremlins game on Kickstarter. This is the first time such a game has reached a successful level of crowdfunding – several recent arcade/pinball related efforts that have tried Kickstarter have failed to reach their goals. While they did not reach their stretch goals, just hitting the initial goal is good news since it means that they will be able to fulfill their plan of producing a limited run on the units this October. This means that the end of this year will be packed with new pinball releases – I’m sure Stern will have something but that also is the same time period that Jersey Jack will be launching The Hobbit Pinball and it also is about the time Skit-B should be delivering Predator. I’m certainly considering a new pinball game for my arcade near the end of the year so it is going to be hard to choose. Either way the pinball sector can only benefit from some more competition as I have mentioned many times before – more games, new ideas, a fresh creative spark into tables and so on. Thanks to Marko Mladenovich for sharing this next story. The Emporium Arcade and Bar has been open in Wicker Park Chicago for some time and they already are expanding into a second location, which opened this week in the Logan Square area. The focus of the venue is on “table gaming” which includes : “pool, foosball, air hockey, pinball, [and] cocktail table video games” for customers to enjoy. I’m not finding an exact list of games aside from mentions in this news article of “Ms. Pac-Man, Centipede, Donkey Kong Jr.”. Either way, they’ve got games and drinks so here’s to wishing them the best of luck as they expand business! [Emporium Website] [Facebook]

Name That Game #11 – Still trying to figure out the best way to handle these as last week you guys got the answers rather quickly. Good job, you know your games 😉 Answers for last week:

1: Kung Fu Master by Data East

2: Pigskin 621 A.D. by Midway

3: Galactic Storm by Taito

Annnnnnnnd for this week, I’m in a space shooter/shoot ’em up mood so let that be the theme. How well do you know your shoot ’em ups? For no particular reason today, I am posting four games:
