Japan Update: Tekken 7, Left 4 Dead Arcade; K-On!! Arcade

A lot of the focus on the site here this time of year is on the newest developments coming to the West but there are still developments taking place in other parts of the world such as the arcade stronghold of Japan. So here are a few things worth noting today:

Tekken 7 – New trailer pointed to me by Twitter user TheDude. Unfortunately the Western outlet who uploaded this ignores the arcade release entirely to pass this off as a “PS4/Xbox One” only sort of thing. It is true that Bandai Namco Japan will not pass up an opportunity for a console port, which in turn poisons the well for Western arcades but it still is coming to arcades first no matter how you slice it.  I will ask about Tekken 7’s prospects for Western arcades at IAAPA next week.

Left 4 Dead Survivors – Earlier this year there was a bit of hype about an arcade port of Valve’s Left 4 Dead to the arcade which Taito was callign Left 4 Dead Survivors. At the time they suggested a Winter 2014 release but now the game has been given a concrete release date of December 10th. I highly doubt we will see this in North America/Europe aside from the possible special import; for it to last in an American arcade it would need some rugged cabling as opposed to what it has currently.

That might not matter entirely as I heard from a source yesterday that one of the new updates coming to Big Buck HD is going to be AMC’s The Walking Dead. I don’t know any more than that and the way it was phrased was partially on the side of speculation but one of the AH commentors here the other day also mentioned that some sort of zombie mode was going to be added to BBHD in the near future.  Hopefully we’ll know more about that next week but if true that would certainly fill in the zombie arcade game position over here.

Here is the official L4D Arcade Website.

Taito’s most recent trailer for this is six months old but they promise that an update is coming soon

K-On!! Arcade – I am not familiar with the anime program K-On!! but apparently it is now getting an official rhythm arcade game courtesy of Sega. It looks fairly cutesy but there are no cabinet shots yet to tell otherwise.

UPDATE: Thanks to a comment by BLITZ, here is the cabinet. Looks like one of those card games that are still popular in Japan. Thanks Blitz! :

Since it’s a SEGA game, I hope they can provide an English language version for it. I mean if they can do it for games such as Mai Mai and their Mushi King card game for kids, then I believe SEGA has the capability to do the same for K-ON Arcade =)

We have to thank Australia for that 😉 As long as they will get it then it certainly is likely although I am not sure if Aus. takes on the card games very often.

I still see dinosaur king and that berry dance card game sometimes when I go to the coast. Last time I saw dinosaur king was last month at Rhyl in Wales.
