Now Available: Pink Panther Jewel Heist (ICE); Dolphin Star (Barron)

Here are a couple of items to discuss briefly as they have been announced as being available to grab from a distributor.

Pink Panther Jewel Heist – Seen on location test a while back, ICE Games and Play Mechanix have teamed up again to produce a new license based upon the Pink Panther cartoons. The videmption game is shipping now although I have not heard what the price is. It is a joystick game though which is still somewhat rare from the major manufacturers.

Dolphin Star – Also along the lines of videmption, although this fits more into an interactive kiddie ride is a new piece imported to the West by Barron Games. Dolphin Star is also available now for locations where they want something that appeals to kids with a motion base. This is taking the place of the Go Go Pony interactive kiddie ride that the company had showed off at IAAPA 2014:

I have added both games to our Arcade Releases for 2015 page under the videmption category. I was tipped off to another videmption development that is on test but with so few details (the manufacturer has no comment on it for now, too early as a test) it is better to wait…it will likely be at IAAPA though.

What are your thoughts on these new developments?

I’m excited to try out The Pink Panther Jewel Heist! I used to watch Pink Panther cartoons a lot when I was younger, and I have the whole DVD collection!

Isn’t this cartoon from the 70’s & 80’s? Will kids today identify with it? Certainly the parents will. The gameplay looks very similar to Tower & Shaft on Aleck64 hardware (http://system16.com/hardware.php?id=816&page=1#18519). The Shaft part of the game goes down with left/right only joystick input. The Tower part goes up with single button input for jump. Highly addictive and simple fun.

Of course they will Dave K as it’s still on TV but the newer version which is on Boomerang TV channel thought whether they watch it I couldn’t say but some will but I don’t know of many kids that watch it but it’ll certainly appears to older players.
