The E3 of the arcade biz, IAAPA 2019, is less than a month away, which means that we usually start to hear about some of the products that will be making their grand debut at the show. Sega consistently unveils their video game line-up in October, so it was just a matter of waiting.

For this year’s big title, it’s one that we’ve discussed a few times on the site previously, the arcade rendition of Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games. This serves as a sequel to Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games Arcade Edition, bringing some upgrades and changes to the format. This is done with a big change in the control scheme, as well as in new events:

Today, Sega Amusements sent out an e-mail blast that included this IAAPA 2019 flyer for the game. It did not link to a webpage showing more info, but we do learn an important fact about the game from the top line – it will be available as an upgrade kit to existing Mario & Sonic 2016 units! I think that is very welcome to locations that picked the game up originally and want a refresh (along with a more reliable control scheme). It also will maintain some of the events from the 2016 edition, while adding five new ones: Rugby, Discus Throw, Sport Climbing, Surfing and Swimming.

While a Nintendo Switch version will launch on Nov. 5th, the arcade version will be different in content, the display and in the controls.

I will be at IAAPA 2019 to check it out and pass along more info. What do you think about Sega’s latest video outing?
