If you know of an arcade in Japan that has Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, then as of today they likely have the latest (and supposedly final) update to the series, Ver. 2012. Japanese SSFIV units are internet enabled so they can download the balancing update for free. Arcades get a whole week and a half of timed exclusivity on this update, although if you are in the US and have one of the offline Versus kits all I have heard is to send your board into the distributor you bought it from, they will send it back to Capcom Japan who will then send out a new hard drive with the update on it. I haven’t confirmed that yet and from personal experience let’s say it’s not a quick process by any means. What I wonder about is why the update can’t be made available online that could be downloaded to a thumb drive and installed to the TypeX2 that way – when the game starts up, it checks for such a thing so why all the hassle with replacing hard drives?
So will this be the last Street Fighter IV update before they decide to move on to Street Fighter V? Who knows. Street Fighter isn’t going away as fans still have Street Fighter X Tekken and Tekken X Street Fighter to look forward to.
