Underground Retrocade Opening Friday In East Dundee, IL

The State of Illinois continues to strengthen its foundation when it comes to arcade venues. It’s already home to several companies that create arcade titles and we’ve had news on various locations opening their doors in the state in recent times. Add another to that list with the soon to be open Underground Retrocade, which is opening this Friday at 7pm in East Dundee, IL. According to the owner, they will have “over 40 original classic cabinets working on the floor, and 10 more queued up for quick deploy over the next couple of weeks”. They already have a listing on Aurcade.com where you can browse a full list which currently stands at 48 games. As their name implies they have a strong focus on big name classics(Asteroids, Centipede, Defender, Donkey Kong, Joust, Missile Command, Ms. Pac-Man, Tempest, TRON, Zaxxon, etc.) with some rarities to find on location like Super Spaceforce Macross. Also according to the owner Scott Lambert, “We follow a single-pay-all-you-can-play model with pricing that starts at $10. We also have a console area with 2 large leather couches and 2 40″ 8ms LCD displays with retro consoles such as the original Atari2600 with a huge selection of games to play, including the just-released port of Star Castle! We aim to treat players right, with a concession and seating area, as well as a party room for rent.”

We wish them the best of luck in their endeavor! It’s also interesting to note that this is the 14th article we’ve run in the past six months about a new location opening or remodeling somewhere around the world, most of those in North America. I am sure that there is a location opening we’ve missed in that time as well but either way it’s great to see more locations opening up to offer arcade entertainment to the masses. For anyone interested in a data point, Aurcade.com currently lists 1209 locations on their master location list. It’s not a complete list as locations have to be added by users (Chuck E. Cheeses has over 500 around the world alone and this certainly does not list all of them) but shows that there are more out there then is given credit for.

    More great arcade news.

Once day, when I finally get to travel overseas again, I’ll have to check out a few of these awesome US arcades.

PS: The ‘security cam’ photo is a bit creepy. I’m half expecting to see someone get beaten up or abducted….
