NGDEVTEAM Unveils Razion for NEOGEO MVS Arcade Machines

We are quite familiar with NGDEVTEAM here, where they have been keeping SNK’s NEO GEO MVS hardware alive and well with games like NEO XYX, Last Hope and Gunlord. When they had recently announced that they were planning on doing development for Nintendo platforms like the 3DS and WiiU, I wondered if that meant that they might be moving away from MVS development. That has been dispelled today as they have unveiled the newest game for the MVS hardware, a scrolling shooter they are calling Razion.

Razion is a left-to-right scroller that from a glance it appears to carry some elements from shooters like Blazing Star and Mars Matrix. There is something about the look which appears to have a little bit of both. That’s not a complaint on my part, I think it looks great. The shading on some of the stuff, even though its pre-rendered, is really nice. Considering that this is for hardware that was released in 1990, I’m not sure how one could complain anyways. For more details that are posted on the Razion website:

The score system is based on growing gold cubes and using the beam
It has 2 game modes (NOVICE/NORMAL).
Novice mode is significantly easier and will allow more people to enjoy the great graphics and music.

Normal mode is a more maniac experience.

Game Features:

6 stages with varied settings 6 huge end bosses 7 sub bosses 2 game modes

Graphics:

Rendered 16-bit CGI graphics Horizontal shooting game

Hardware Specs (MVS/AES):

Full use of 1560 Megabits (Gigashock) Full digitized stereo soundtrack In-system software updates via USB port (MVS) Custom made PCBs Custom made cartridge shell

The game is slated for an MVS release this Autumn and here is a trailer to show it in action; and check out that skeleton robot around 3:35:

I was unable to get my hands on their other MVS releases, I was particularly interested in Gunlord. Maybe this time will be different 😉 This game is available for pre-order now and will be available worldwide.

Doe some parts of this game remind me of Mars Matrix?

I’m hoping they still support console development with this title as I’m not having any luck finding a location that has any NEO-GEO cabinets available.

NGDT confirmed this via their info newsletter yesterday…

“An AES version will follow after we shipped NEO XYX AES and PINK BULLET AES.”

Hey that’s cool! Usually they add Dreacast support as well and some people have been crafty enough to add a scanline generator to add that crt effect. I’m always thinking if you can’t find an arcade somewhere, there’s no point in somehow doing a setup yourself at home and I don’t believe folks should be limited to what titles they’re allowed to play when they really want them bad enough.
