Arcade Innovations

Kevin Williams has posted an interesting article over at SPoNG.com that discusses some of the innovations that the arcade industry brought to video games. From QWAKs! light-gun to Atari Footballs trackball, I, Robot’s 3D graphics and Hard Drivin’s force feedback steering wheel to Final Lap’s network multiplayer and Time Crisis’ duck pedal, the arcade industry gave birth to many things that people may incorrectly associate with being fostered on the game console side of the industry or they simply forget about the role that many classic games and companies have played into shaping the industry we all know and love. It’s kind of surprising to look at the number of ideas that arcades brought to the table years ago that only now may be seeing wide-spread mass acceptance today.
