The SIGGRAPH technology conference will feature something interesting for classic arcade vector fans – they will feature a “vector graphics laser projection system” to allow for the play of games such as Tempest, Asteroids and Star Wars on a giant projector screen. The system will recreate a faithful vector experience on the large screen, which is typically lost on anything other than a true vector display. The games will be running off the actual microcode from the original titles so that nothing is lost and they will even feature a number of unnamed celebrities at the event to play the games.

If you have never experienced a classic vector arcade game then you don’t know what you are missing. I’ve always been enamored by the special effects that vectors can do, with their super-bright images and unique look. The existance of a vector projector is certainly something of interest to a fan like myself, although I do not doubt that it is expensive. I have also heard of these before, so I do not know if this is just a new way of doing it.  Hit the link to Gamasutra above for the full story.
