In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Space Invaders along with seeking to improve it’s image in the game industry, Taito announced a new branding strategy that includes new logos, a unification of their “Taito Station” stores (which includes creating similar uniforms among their 182 stores that are red with a Space invader on the back) and even announced a new Space Invaders game for the Nintendo Wii (where in an interesting twist you get to play as the invaders for once). While I didn’t find any new arcade game announcements in the article, this is proof that while companies like Namco might be struggling with their arcade brand in Japan, companies like Taito are working to strengthen their presence in the marketplace.
